Number of Openings: 1 Worker Type: Permanent Position Overview: As a Journeyperson General Salvage Technician (Machinist) at OEM, you will be responsible for operating machine tools to manufacture direct materials and salvage worn parts for use in the remanufacturing process. You are a seasoned machinist who takes pride in the quality of work which you consistently produce.
Job Description Perform salvage techniques on various machines such as Horizontal Lathes, Radial Arm Drills, Small or Large Milling Machines, and operation of CNC Equipment (Lathes and Mills)
Maintain and clean equipment as required
Maintain Caterpillar contamination control initiatives
Qualifications Machinist Journeyperson ticket, or interprovincial Red Seal, is required
Preference given to those who fall within the value stream & qualify as defined in Schedule C
Multiple years’ working experience and competency in a crank, block salvage or machine shop
Experience operating horizontal and vertical Lathes, Radial Arm Drills, Milling Machines, Surface Grinders, and Plate Sanding is preferred
Experience/proficiency with CNC Mills and Lathes (reading and writing CNC programs) is preferred
Portable Line Boring experience is preferred
Must have accurate documentation and measuring skills
Must be able to understand salvage specifications and related technical documentation, including technical drawings
Must be able to communicate written and spoken English effectively
Ability to regularly lift and handle material weighing up to 40 pounds
A condition of employment is the ability to be fit tested and the ability to wear a respirator




Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work in a secure manner and comply in all aspects of the organizations policies and procedures
Will require successful completion of drug and alcohol testing, a criminal background check, and a medical assessment
Note: This posting is for a static weekend night shift scheduled 4 days on 3 days off, followed by 3 days on 4 days off, Thursday to Sunday, followed by Friday to Sunday. The shift will be 5:30pm - 5:30am. The successful candidate may be required to complete training during a Mon - Thurs / Fri weekday shift and will move to weekends once they have sufficient experience. Any future shift changes that may occur will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement
Hourly Rate: $53.05 - 56.23 / Hour
Union Membership: This is a unionized position. Terms of employment are governed by a collective agreement.
