Temporary Heavy Duty Mechanic Public Works Outside WorkerCUPE Local 2709

The Township of Spallumcheen is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to support the Township’s Public Works team on a temporary basis for a term commencing September 3, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until December 31, 2026 or until the incumbent employee returns from leave, whichever occurs first.
About the Role
Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and servicing of municipal vehicles and heavy equipment. The successful candidate will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Township's fleet through preventative maintenance, repairs, welding and fabrication work, and accurate maintenance record keeping. This position is covered by the current Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement, Local 2709.
Plus 16% in lieu of benefits, statutory holiday pay, and vacation pay (as per CUPE Local 2709 Article 17)
What You’ll Bring
- Grade 12 education.
- BC Certified Journeyman Certificate as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic.
- Valid Class 3 BC Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience as a mechanic.
- Class C Welding Ticket.
- Level 1 First Aid Certificate.
- WHMIS Training.

Each gravel road will be graded between 2-4 times per year on average.
