What will my role be?

Rankin Construction Inc. is a leading heavy civil construction contractor serving the Niagara Region, Hamilton, and surrounding areas. We specialize in roads, bridges, underground utilities, water and sewer infrastructure, aggregate production, and municipal and MTO projects.

We are currently seeking aQC Technician – CET to join our team and support quality control, construction materials testing, and documentation on our heavy civil construction projects.

The QC Technician – CET will be responsible for field and laboratory testing of construction materials and assisting with quality control activities to ensure that work and materials meet project specifications, MTO requirements, Ontario Provincial Standards, and applicable testing standards.

The position will involve regular travel between active construction sites throughout Niagara, Hamilton, and surrounding areas.

As a Project Coordinator & Scheduler, you will:

- Perform quality control testing on heavy civil construction projects.
- Conduct asphalt sampling and testing.
- Perform concrete sampling and field testing.




- Perform soil, aggregate, compaction, and density testing.
- Monitor construction activities and document testing results.
- Complete quality control reports, inspection records, and test reports.
- Collect, label, transport, and prepare material samples for testing.
- Assist with laboratory testing and maintain accurate testing records.
- Identify and report quality issues or deficiencies.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, Foremen, consultants, inspectors, and laboratory personnel.
- Maintain testing equipment and ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Ensure testing and documentation are completed in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards.
- Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.

What we’re looking for!

We are looking for someone who understands that a successful construction schedule is more than dates entered into a computer.

The successful candidate must understand how heavy civil construction work is actually built and be able to work with field supervision to develop schedules that accurately represent construction sequencing, production, constraints, and project requirements.

You should be comfortable getting out on the project, speaking with the people performing the work, understanding what is happening in the field, identifying potential scheduling issues early, and helping the Project Manager and Superintendent keep the project moving forward.

We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, technically capable, analytical, and comfortable taking ownership of project scheduling responsibilities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

- Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist (CET) designation or Civil Engineering Technology diploma is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in quality control, construction materials testing, or heavy civil construction is preferred.
- Experience withMTO road constructionis a strong asset.
- Experience withasphalt testing.
- Experience withconcrete testing.
- Experience withsoil compaction and density testing.
- Knowledge of aggregate testing is an asset.
- Knowledge ofMTO specifications, OPSS and OPSDis an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document test results.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a construction team.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel between multiple jobsites throughout Niagara and Hamilton

Certifications & Training

Preference will be given to candidates with recognized training or certification in:

- Soil compaction/density testing
- Aggregate testing
- MTO/CCIL testing programs

This position involves a combination of office and active construction site work. Candidates must be comfortable working around heavy civil construction operations and travelling to project locations throughout Ontario as required. The position requires regular interaction with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, consultants, and owners.

The successful candidate must be equally comfortable reviewing a Primavera P6 schedule in the office and walking a project with field supervision to understand whether the schedule accurately reflects the work being performed.
