Position Overview

The Youth Navigator Coordinator leads the day-to-day delivery of the AWN Youth Pathfinders Initiative, a community-led and culturally grounded youth wellness and violence prevention program. The position supports Indigenous youth, with particular attention to girls, young women, and 2S+ youth, through consistent mentorship, cultural connection, practical life-skills development, healthy relationship education, and leadership opportunities. Working with youth, Elders, families, facilitators, staff, and community partners, the Coordinator creates safe and welcoming opportunities that strengthen identity, confidence, belonging, personal safety, and readiness for education and employment.

Duties

Program Coordination & Logistics

- Plan, promote, and run Pathfinders activities, including bi-weekly Pop-Up Youth Centres, Success Pathways workshops, and Self-Care Circles
- Coordinate activity schedules, registration processes, youth transportation, materials, and participant communications.
- Monitor program spending and maintain accurate, approved records for purchases, travel, and facilitator or Elder honoraria.
- Establish trusting, consistent relationships with youth through one-on-one mentorship and group-based support.
- Help participants identify personal goals and develop action plans for wellness, life skills, education, and employment readiness.




- Recognize safety concerns, maintain strict professional boundaries, and follow emergency protocols and established referral pathways.

Cultural Safety & Community Engagement

- Ensure all programming is Indigenous-led, trauma-informed, and responsive to the experiences of girls, young women, and 2S+ youth.
- Engage Elders and knowledge holders for cultural teachings, land-based learning, and community circles.
- Invite meaningful youth input into program design and create opportunities for participants to lead within the community.

Documentation & Evaluation

- Securely maintain accurate participant intake, attendance, consent, and follow-up records.
- Gather youth feedback, track progress toward program outcomes, and prepare regular updates and funding reports.

Qualifications

- Deep understanding of AWN communities, local families, and regional Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.
- Strong grasp of the impacts of colonialism, intergenerational trauma, and systemic barriers affecting Indigenous girls, young women, and 2S+ youth.
- Solid understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and strengths-based, youth-centred programming.




- Exceptional relationship-building skills and a proven ability to facilitate youth circles, workshops, and land-based learning activities.
- Proficient in activity scheduling, event coordination (like pop-up youth centres), transportation logistics, and tracking project budgets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for funding reports, paired with a high competence in keeping confidential participant records.
- Ability to maintain a calm, grounded presence in sensitive situations, manage conflicts, and execute emergency protocols or referral pathways.

Education & Experience

- Degree/diploma in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field (a comparable combination of cultural knowledge and lived experience will be thoroughly considered).
- Proven experience supporting Indigenous youth through mentorship, outreach, wellness, or community-based programming.

Requirements & Assets

- Valid driver’s licence with reliable transportation, satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, and current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to work flexible hours (occasional evenings/weekends) and travel locally for land-based activities.
- Indigenous identity or lived experience in the Grande Cache area; knowledge or basic conversational proficiency in the Cree language.

Work Demands

The position is based in Grande Cache and includes work in office, community, school, and land-based settings. Duties may involve local travel, outdoor activities, variable weather, group events, and occasional evening or weekend work.
