We're partnering with an agency looking for a Generative AI Video Artist to create a highly polished, cinematic film for an upcoming major internal event.
The person we're looking for sits somewhere between filmmaker, editor, motion designer and generative artist.
You may use AI heavily in your process, but the technology isn't the point. The quality of the film is.
You'll be given a creative direction and asked to help figure out how that idea actually comes to life on screen-from establishing the visual world and characters to designing individual moments, creating footage, editing sequences and finishing the final film.
We're looking for someone who can make creative decisions independently and bring ideas to the table, not simply execute prompts or generate assets.
The Assignment
Working alongside the agency's creative team, you'll help turn an established concept and script into a cinematic piece with a strong sense of atmosphere, momentum and emotion.
You'll determine how scenes should look and move, what needs to be generated, what should be created through more traditional production techniques and how everything ultimately comes together.
That could mean:
- Establishing the visual language for the film
- Designing characters and environments
- Exploring how key moments should play out on screen
- Storyboarding and pre-visualizing sequences
- Generating and refining footage
- Building consistency across shots
- Combining AI footage with stock, live action, photography or graphics
- Editing sequences into a cohesive narrative
- Adding motion design, compositing and VFX
- Working with music, dialogue and sound
- Taking the piece through final polish and delivery
We're Looking for a Filmmaker First
Knowing the latest AI platforms is important. Knowing what makes a great shot is more important.
You understand framing, movement, lighting, performance, editing and sound-and how those elements work together to make an audience feel something.
You know when a moment needs to breathe, when the edit needs to accelerate,
when something should remain hidden and when the reveal should happen.
You can look at a technically impressive generation and recognize that it still isn't good enough for the film.
And you know how to fix it.
Sometimes that's another generation. Sometimes it's After Effects. Sometimes it's a different edit, a composite, an animation, a stock shot or a completely different solution.
That judgment is a major part of this role.
Generative Production
You'll be expected to have meaningful hands-on experience creating professional work with current generative image and video technology.
Your toolkit may include platforms such as:
Runway, Veo, Flow, Seedance, Midjourney, Magnific, Google Nano Banana and ChatGPT Image, along with other tools you've incorporated into your own production workflow.
We're particularly interested in people who have moved beyond experimentation and developed methods for achieving repeatable, art-directable results.
That includes maintaining continuity across:
- Characters
- Wardrobe
- Locations and environments
- Lighting
- Camera perspectives
- Movement
- Performance
- Overall visual style
Experience developing procedural, node-based or other structured AI workflows is valuable.
Traditional Craft Still Matters
You should be highly capable outside of generative platforms.
Strong proficiency with After Effects and Premiere Pro is key, along with experience in areas such as:
- Editing
- Motion design
- Animation
- Typography
- Compositing
- Tracking
- Masking
- Keying
- Cleanup
- VFX
- Colour and visual finishing
- Music and sound integration
Experience with Cavalry is also valuable.
The strongest candidate will move naturally between AI and traditional post-production rather than treating them as separate disciplines.
How You'll Work With the Creative Team
You'll receive an established creative direction, but there will be considerable room for you to determine how that direction is executed.
Our client does not want to hand someone a list of 50 shots and tell them exactly what to generate.
They want someone who can participate in a conversation about a scene, understand what it's supposed to accomplish and come back with a thoughtful visual solution.
You'll need to be comfortable showing work in progress, explaining why you've made certain choices and responding quickly when the creative direction evolves.
Strong communication and presentation skills are therefore important.
Your Portfolio
Your reel will carry significant weight.
We're looking for work that shows:
- A sophisticated visual eye
- Cinematic composition and movement
- Strong editing and pacing
- Character-driven or narrative sequences
- Consistency across generated shots
- Developed environments and visual worlds
- Thoughtful use of music and sound
- High-quality motion and post-production
- AI integrated naturally into a broader filmmaking process
- Finished pieces rather than collections of interesting AI experiments
Trailer, title-sequence, entertainment, film, broadcast, motion-design and highly cinematic branded-content experience could all translate particularly well.
You'll Probably Love This If...
You experiment constantly with new generative tools but don't become attached to any particular one.
You care more about the final frame than the prompt that created it.
You have strong opinions about pacing, cinematography, music and visual storytelling.
You can take an imperfect piece of generated footage and figure out how to make it usable-or recognize quickly that it should be abandoned.
And when someone gives you a script, you immediately start seeing the film in your head.
