Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technologist to provide hands-on technical support for the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of aluminum extrusion manufacturing equipment. The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in hydraulics, electrical systems, PLC programming, automation controls, and industrial machinery.

This role is primarily shop-floor based and actively involved in diagnosing equipment problems, performing and supporting repairs, commissioning equipment, and working side-by-side with maintenance personnel to improve equipment reliability and performance. In addition, the Maintenance Technologist will lead technical problem-solving initiatives, support maintenance training, manage technical documentation, and coordinate equipment improvement projects.

Main Responsibilities

- Perform and support hands-on troubleshooting of aluminum extrusion presses, handling equipment, conveyors, saws, cooling systems, and auxiliary production equipment.
- Work directly with maintenance personnel to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and control system failures.
- Provide technical leadership and direction during complex troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Participate in hands-on repair, testing, commissioning, and start-up activities as required.
- Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC systems, HMI interfaces, VFDs, and automation equipment.
- Troubleshoot and optimize hydraulic systems, hydraulic power units, pumps, valves, cylinders, and servo-controlled equipment.
- Support preventative, predictive,



and corrective maintenance activities.
- Conduct root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
- Create, modify, update, and manage mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and process drawings and documentation.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
- Support equipment installations, upgrades, retrofits, and commissioning projects.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance improvement and capital projects while maintaining active involvement in equipment implementation and start-up.
- Develop and deliver technical training programs to improve maintenance team troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
- Initiate discussions and collaborate with OEMs, suppliers, contractors, and technical support resources to resolve equipment issues and identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation, and project information.
- Promote and support a safe work environment while ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and regulations.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

- Diploma or Certificate in Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in aluminum extrusion, metals processing, or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in:
- Hydraulic systems and fluid power
- Electrical controls
- Pneumatic systems




- PLC programming and diagnostics (PLC5, SLC, Contrologix)
- Industrial automation, industrial communication networks, etc.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other industrial PLC platforms.
- Ability to troubleshoot VFDs, servo systems, industrial networks, and control circuits.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Able and willing to work on the production floor, including equipment inspections, diagnostics, commissioning, and repair activities.
- Licensed Industrial Electrician (442A or 309A) and/or Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A).
- Experience working with aluminum extrusion presses and associated finishing equipment.
- Experience with CMMS software.
