About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Sprinkler & Cross Connection Technician to join our team.

This is a field-based position responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fire sprinkler, standpipe, and cross-connection/backflow prevention systems at commercial and residential properties throughout Vancouver Island.

The successful candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.

Key Responsibilities

- Inspect, test, and maintain fire sprinkler and standpipe systems.
- Perform quarterly, semi-annual, 3-year, and 5-year inspections and testing in accordance with NFPA 25.
- Inspect, test, maintain, and repair cross-connection/backflow prevention devices.
- Complete required electronic cross-connection test submissions accurately and on time.
- Complete detailed inspection reports and document deficiencies and findings.
- Maintain accurate service records using ServiceTrade.
- Follow applicable requirements under the 2024 BC Fire Code, CAN/ULC-S536, NFPA 25, and company procedures.
- Develop a working knowledge of fire alarm systems and other life safety equipment.
- Troubleshoot field issues and work with senior technicians and office staff when additional support is required.
- Review upcoming jobs and ensure all required tools, equipment, and materials are prepared in advance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked company service vehicle.
- Communicate professionally with customers, property managers, building owners, and other contractors.




- Participate in technician meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of company procedures.
- Represent Cantec Fire Alarms professionally at all customer locations.
- Work occasional overtime or weekends when required.

Qualifications

- Previous experience with fire sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, cross-connection/backflow systems, or related fire/life safety equipment.
- Cross Connection Certification through BCWWA.
- Knowledge of NFPA 25 and applicable BC fire and life safety requirements.
- Familiarity with the 2024 BC Fire Code and CAN/ULC-S536.
- Fire alarm certification through CFAA, ASTTBC, or equivalent is an asset.
- Solid mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to complete accurate inspection reports and electronic documentation.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Physical & Working Conditions

- Primarily field-based, with travel to various customer locations throughout Vancouver Island.
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and access mechanical rooms and equipment areas.
- Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment.
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
