Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Core Cutter plays a key role in advancing the onsite exploration program at Minto Mine. The primary responsibilities of the Core Cutter are the cutting and sampling of drill core and the preparation of sample shipments.

This is a hands-on, site-based role. It suits an organized, safety-conscious individual who takes pride in the quality and care of their work, works well as part of a team, and is comfortable performing physical work over long shifts in a remote camp environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

- Receive, organize, and prepare drill core boxes for cutting.
- Cut drill core using an electric core saw, minimizing sample loss and contamination during cutting.
- Collect and bag drill core samples according to the sample intervals established by the geologists and/or geological technicians.
- Assist with the preparation of sample shipments.
- Maintain a clean and clutter-free workspace, including cleaning of the core saw and tray at the end of each shift.
- Inspect the worksite and equipment (core saw) regularly for damage, and report any issues to the supervisor.
- Assist in core sampling, bagging, and preparing consumables required in the geologist’s workflow, to improve the efficiency of the process.
- Mentor new core cutters and support ongoing workplace and safety training.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols, including use of personal protective equipment.
- Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
- Promote the company’s commitment to sustainability, the setting, and health and safety. Lead by example, demonstrating honesty, sincerity, and openness to feedback.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

- Ability to work in a remote camp location on a rotation of 15 days on / 13 days off, up to 22 days on / 6 days off, or as required.
- Must be clean shaven and complete fit test for respirator
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs throughout a work shift.

- Demonstrated diligence in performing tasks, with a focus on quality first and foremost.
- Ability to take ownership of the work area, including organizing and caring for the tools and equipment used.
- Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 11-hour shifts.
- Ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, such as cold, snow, rain, and heat.

Preferred (Assets)

- Previous core cutting experience.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Ability to operate a skidsteer.

Working Conditions

- Camp-based rotational work at a remote northern site, with shared or single-room accommodation, meals, and recreation facilities provided at no cost to the employee.
- Outdoor and yard-adjacent work in a core processing/cutting facility, including work in cold weather and winter conditions.
- Regular lifting and handling of materials up to 50 lbs, standing and repetitive tasks for extended periods, and use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to perform sustained physical work over 12-hour shifts.
- Travel to and from site from the designated point of hire in accordance with company travel policy.
- This position is designated safety-sensitive.

- Hourly compensation as stated above, with overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked beyond 8 hours in a shift.

- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and, as a condition of employment in a safety-sensitive position, pre-employment drug and alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.

The Minto Mine is a copper-gold-silver operation located approximately 240 kilometres north of Whitehorse. The Minto exploration program is focused on the strategic conversion of Inferred resources to Indicated and Measured resources, while building an exploration target pipeline both near mine and across the regional land package.

Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 77.0 per week
