Who We Are

Read on Roads Inc. is an established road construction company based in High River, AB. We've built our reputation on keeping Alberta's roads safe and that starts with our traffic control crews. Our flaggers are not an afterthought: they are the first line of safety on every project we run, and we treat them that way.

We run a focused seasonal operation from April through November, which means steady, full-time hours when it counts, and the ability to plan your off-season. Our crews work hard, look out for each other, and take pride in the work they do.

The Role

As a Traffic Control Flagger, your job is to keep everyone safe our crews, the people driving through our zones, and the public. You will work directly alongside our paving and patching crews to set up, manage, and break down temporary traffic control zones on active road construction sites across Alberta.

Important Travel is Required

This is a travel-based position. You will be working away from home for the majority of the season, moving between project sites as needed. If you are looking for a role that has you home every night, this is not the right fit —but if you are ready for a season of solid work, great pay, and a team you can count on, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

- Direct traffic safely through and around construction zones using stop/slow paddles, flags, and hand signals.
- Set up and take down work zones daily placing, moving, and retrieving signs, barricades, cones, and drums to MUTCD and provincial standards.
- Monitor for hazards continuously speeding vehicles, reckless drivers,



or shifting site conditions and communicate risks immediately to your crew.
- Stay in constant contact with fellow flaggers, equipment operators, and crew leaders via two-way radio to coordinate lane closures, equipment moves, and material deliveries.
- Talk to the public calmly and clearly explaining delays, alternate routes, and answering questions from drivers and pedestrians.
- Respond to emergencies quickly adjusting traffic patterns or securing the zone in the event of an incident, severe weather, or site emergency.
- Inspect and maintain your gear PPE, signage, and flagging equipment are kept clean, visible, and in good working order at all times.

- $18–$25/hr based on experience, with overtime available
- Paid flagger certification training we cover the cost for the right candidate

What We're Looking For

Required

- Valid Alberta driver's license you will be operating company vehicles to transport signs and equipment




- Ability to stand for 10–12 hours on uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs of traffic control equipment
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather heat, rain, wind, and around heavy machinery
- Excellent situational awareness and the ability to stay focused and calm throughout a full shift
- Flexible availability including weekends, early mornings, and occasional night shifts
- Willingness and ability to travel and work away from home for the majority of the season this is non-negotiable

Nice to Have (Not Required)

- Valid Flagger Certification (ATSSA or Alberta provincial equivalent) we will provide training if you don't have it
- Previous experience in construction, road work, traffic control, security, or a similar outdoor field role

A Realistic Look at the Work

This is physically demanding, outdoor, seasonal work. Shifts run 10 to 12 hours, often in heat or poor weather. You will be on your feet most of the day, staying alert in a high-stakes workplace. It is also some of the most rewarding field work in Alberta's construction industry the pay is solid, the crew culture is strong, and every shift you go home knowing you kept people safe.
