TS Manufacturing

Canada

No lumber grading or artificial intelligence experience is required. We will train you to recognize and classify lumber features and defects. What matters most is your ability to stay focused, follow detailed instructions, and label images accurately and consistently.

About TS Manufacturing

TS Manufacturing is a family-owned Canadian company and a global leader in automated machinery for the sawmill and bulk material handling industries. For more than 50 years, we have designed and manufactured equipment and automation systems used by sawmills around the world. We are expanding our artificial intelligence and computer vision capabilities and are looking for a careful, dependable person to help prepare the image data used to train these systems.

About the Role

You will spend most of your workday reviewing images of lumber and applying precise labels using our software and classification guidelines. This is detailed and repetitive computer-based work. It requires patience, sustained concentration, and a commitment to accuracy, even when working through large volumes of similar images. We will provide training on the lumber characteristics you need to identify, including knots, rot and decay, splits and checks, wane, pith, crook, bow, twist, warping, grain characteristics, stains, dimensions, and other visible features or defects. We will also train you on our image labelling tools and quality standards.

What You Will Do

- Review and precisely label images used to train and test artificial intelligence and computer vision systems.
- Learn to identify and classify lumber features and defects according to the guidelines and examples provided.

- Work through large quantities of images while maintaining consistent, high quality results.
- Review completed labels, correct errors, and flag images that are unclear or difficult to classify.
- Compare labels and system results to help identify inconsistencies and improve data quality.
- Document questions, unusual examples, and recurring data issues.
- Participate in training, practice exercises, and regular quality checks.
- Work with engineering, software, and automation team members as the labelling process develops.
- Travel to the United States when required for training or project work.

What You Bring

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to notice small visual differences.
- Patience and the willingness to spend long periods carefully labelling images at a computer.
- The ability to maintain concentration, accuracy, and consistency during repetitive work.
- A willingness to learn lumber classifications and apply detailed rules exactly as trained.
- Comfort using computers and learning new software.
- Good organization and the ability to keep clear, accurate records.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to ask questions when a label or guideline is uncertain.

- The willingness and ability to travel to the United States and meet applicable entry requirements.

Helpful but Not Required

Experience with lumber, sawmills, manufacturing, quality control, data entry, image annotation, Microsoft Excel, or artificial intelligence may be helpful, but it is not required. We welcome applicants who are new to the industry and ready to learn.

Why Join TS Manufacturing

- Full training in lumber feature and defect classification.
- Competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package.
- A secure, full-time position with a Monday to Friday schedule.
