Job Description
We are seeking a certified Surface Blaster to plan and execute controlled surface blasting in rock and overburden environments. This role is responsible for implementing approved blast designs, selecting appropriate explosive products and initiation systems, and ensuring all blasting activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies and procedures.
Role Scope
- Execute surface blasts based on approved blast designs and site conditions.
- Apply technical judgment in explosive selection, loading practices, and initiation methods.
- Verify drill accuracy, ground conditions, and blast geometry prior to firing.
- Install and fire non-electric, electronic, or detonating-cord initiation systems.
- Control blast outcomes, including fragmentation, vibration, airblast, and flyrock.
- Complete post-blast evaluations and required documentation.
- Handle explosives safely and in accordance with all applicable regulations.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Work effectively in active construction, mining, and other surface-blasting environments.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Surface Blaster Certification / Blasting Ticket.
- Proven experience in surface blasting, quarry, construction,
or mining environments.
- Surface Miner Common Core certification is preferred.
- Handling Explosives certification/module is preferred.
- Blast Rock module is preferred.
- Solid understanding of blast mechanics and initiation systems.
- Knowledge of secure explosives handling, storage, transportation, and use.
- Strong commitment to safety and operational discipline.
- Ability to work outdoors in active construction and mining environments.
- Ability to follow all applicable provincial and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to work sites as required.
Work Schedule
- Full-time position.
- Hours are generally 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., depending on operational and site requirements.
- FIFO (Fly-In/Fly-Out) work arrangement.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors and in active construction or mining environments.
