Your Opportunity:

The Mental Health Position with YPACT reports to the Care Manager of the CYF, Children, Youth and Families CAST Team. The Mental Health Therapist is a member of the Youth Police & Crisis Team (YPACT), providing mobile crisis intervention, mental health assessment, stabilization, care coordination, and short-term therapeutic support to children, youth, and families experiencing mental health crises. Working in partnership with the Edmonton Police Service, the role collaborates closely with patrol, emergency departments, psychiatrists, community agencies, schools, and families to support timely and effective responses to mental health and addiction concerns. As a specialized community-based service, YPACT is often the first point of contact for children, youth, and families in crisis. The Mental Health Therapist conducts comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, develops safety and intervention plans, and provides crisis intervention, de-escalation, and stabilization services in homes, schools, and other community settings. The role also includes coordinating care, facilitating connections to appropriate community resources, and providing case management for high-risk and psychiatrically complex children and youth to promote stabilization, recovery, and ongoing support. In addition to YPACT coverage, the MHT will be required to support the Children's Mental Health Crisis Team providing initial telephone support and triage, along with community response interventions.

you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization)



including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

This position is open to professionals registered with their respective colleges, including: Registered Nurses (RN) ,Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) ,Registered Social Workers (RSW) (Masters), authorized to conduct psychosocial interventions , Registered Psychologists (Masters Degree), Registered Occupational Therapists. Active registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college is required. Demonstrated experience in mental health and addiction services, particularly with children, youth, and families. Minimum of three years of experience supporting children and youth with complex mental health concerns in a community setting. Formal training in triage, assessment, intervention, risk mitigation and stabilization in a community setting. Strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, safety planning and treatment planning skills. Commitment to recovery-oriented, culturally appropriate, and concurrent capable care. Comprehensive knowledge of the Alberta Mental Health Act Strong critical thinking, strong assessment, clinical documentation and intervention skills, including crisis intervention required. Robust working knowledge of the addictions and mental health system and resources with AHS Edmonton zone and surrounding communities.
