Reports to: Operations Manager and/or Crew Lead

Summary:

The Vehicle Operator (Snow) is responsible for safely and efficiently operating pickup trucks and other road vehicles equipped with snowplows and/or salt/sand spreaders for snow and ice control. Vehicle Operators are expected to be available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week whenever a snow or ice event occurs on assigned sites. Operators must follow site maps and service instructions, protect customer property, apply de-icing materials responsibly, and maintain accurate service and inspection records.

Responsibilities:

- Respond promptly to calls for snow and ice events
- Report fit for duty and free from the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medicines that may affect safe vehicle operation
- Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of the truck, plow, spreader and related equipment
- Transparent snow from designated vehicle areas, lanes, parking areas and other locations shown on site maps
- Pile snow only in designated and approved locations and avoid blocking sightlines, drains, hydrants, entrances,



loading areas and accessible spaces
- Operate trucks, snowplows and spreaders safely, responsibly and efficiently using recommended operating procedures
- Control ice accumulations using approved salt, treated salt, sand/salt mixtures, liquids or other de-icing products
- Adjust driving, plowing and material application practices to site conditions, traffic, pedestrians and weather
- Protect curbs, islands, signs, gates, parked vehicles, buildings and other customer property
- Assist with hand-shoveling or hand-treatment where required
- Remain available for communication throughout the shift and before/after shifts
- Maintain accurate records of times, dates, inspections, service activities, material applications, site conditions and weather
- Submit required paperwork and digital documentation promptly at the end of each shift
- Document and report obstacles, damage, incidents, hazards and equipment defects immediately
- Perform basic maintenance and small repairs within training and authorization
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
- Work in accordance with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

- Valid Ontario ‘G’ driver’s license
- Safe driving record and ability to submit a driver’s abstract upon request
- Previous experience operating trucks with snowplows and/or spreaders is preferred




- Ability to read and interpret maps and site plans
- Knowledge of vehicle inspections, service records and basic maintenance reporting
- Physically fit with good stamina
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team

Work Conditions:

- Various commercial, institutional and residential sites
- On-call hours including nights, weekends and holidays
- Extended periods of driving and repetitive vehicle/equipment operation
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. as required
- Fast-paced work during snow and ice events
- Regular work near pedestrians, traffic, heavy equipment and other vehicles
- Outdoor exposure to extreme cold, snow, freezing rain, wind, darkness, noise and wet condition

Pay: $24.50-$28.50 per hour

Expected hours: 1.0 – 50.0 per week
