EARLY MORNING BAKER / BARISTA — PART-TIME

The Tea Garden is a café, bakery, and tearoom located on Main Street in Stouffville. We’re looking for a reliable and experienced Early Morning Baker / Barista to join our team.

This role begins early in the morning in our bakery, preparing fresh baked goods for the day ahead, and transitions into a barista/café role once the café opens. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys both baking and working directly with guests.

The Tea Garden team works across our bakery, café, and tearoom to create a warm and welcoming experience for our guests. We take pride in making our food and drinks in-house and maintaining a high standard of quality throughout the day.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As an Early Morning Baker / Barista, you’ll play an important role in getting the café ready for the day.

Your shift begins at 5:00 AM, working in the bakery to prepare and finish baked goods, prep ingredients, and ensure everything is ready for opening. Once the café opens, you’ll transition into a barista role, preparing specialty drinks and serving guests throughout the morning.

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable working independently in the early morning, and able to maintain a high standard of quality while working efficiently.

THE ROLE

As an Early Morning Baker / Barista, you will:

Bakery — 5:00 AM to Opening

- Prepare and bake fresh breads, pastries, scones, cookies, cakes, and other baked goods
- Follow recipes and production procedures accurately
- Measure and prepare ingredients with attention to detail
- Assist with dough preparation, shaping, decorating, and finishing
- Prepare baked goods for display and service
- Complete bakery prep and ensure the café is ready for opening




- Maintain a clean and organized bakery workspace
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures
- Monitor inventory and communicate when ingredients or supplies need to be replenished

Café — After Opening

- Prepare and serve specialty coffee, espresso drinks, matcha, and tea
- Provide friendly, efficient customer service
- Take orders, operate the POS system, and process payments accurately
- Prepare and plate food and baked goods for guests
- Assist with restocking and maintaining the café throughout service
- Complete dishes, cleaning, and general café upkeep
- Work efficiently during busy morning service periods
- Support the team wherever needed to keep the café running smoothly

THE QUALIFICATIONS

The Early Morning Baker / Barista has:

- Previous professional baking and/or barista experience preferred
- Experience working in a bakery, café, restaurant, or hospitality environment
- Strong understanding of basic baking techniques and food preparation
- A valid Food Handler’s Certificate
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
- The ability to follow recipes and instructions consistently
- The ability to work independently and stay productive without constant supervision
- Strong communication and multitasking skills
- The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Basic POS and cash-handling experience




- A positive, reliable, and team-oriented attitude
- The ability to consistently arrive on time for 5:00 AM starts

THE LOGISTICS

As a Part-Time Early Morning Baker / Barista, you have:

- The ability to consistently start work at 5:00 AM
- Availability for early morning shifts
- Availability to work weekends and holidays as required
- The ability to transition between bakery production and café service during the same shift
- The ability to work in person at our Stouffville location
- Reliable transportation to and from the café is an asset

Actual hours scheduled each week will depend on your availability and business needs.
