Mechanical / Electromechanical / Electrical Technician Background Preferred

GQ Mechanical Corp. is looking for a technically capable Field Service Technician to join our commercial equipment service team.

We are seeking someone with a strong mechanical and electrical background who already has practical hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing or maintaining equipment and wants to develop further in commercial equipment service.

The ideal candidate will have post-secondary technical education combined with practical experience working with mechanical, electrical, electromechanical or industrial equipment.

Our technicians work on sophisticated commercial equipment incorporating motors, sensors, heating systems, gas systems, relays, contactors, control boards, variable-frequency drives and other electrical and mechanical components.

Responsibilities

- Diagnose and repair commercial cooking and foodservice equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and electromechanical faults
- Use multimeters and diagnostic tools to identify component and system failures
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals
- Test motors, relays, contactors, switches, sensors, heating components and control circuits
- Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections
- Assist with equipment installation and commissioning
- Follow manufacturer diagnostic and repair procedures
- Complete accurate and professional digital service reports
- Communicate technical findings clearly to customers and the service team
- Maintain an organized company vehicle, tools and work area
- Follow company safety procedures and manufacturer requirements
- Participate in scheduled after-hours, weekend and holiday service coverage

Qualifications

Candidates should have post-secondary technical education in one of the following or a closely related field:

- Mechanical Engineering Technician / Technology
- Electromechanical Engineering Technician / Technology
- Electrical Engineering Technician / Technology
- Electronics Engineering Technician / Technology
- Automation or Controls
- Industrial Maintenance / Mechatronics

Experience





- Minimum 1–2 years of practical technical experience in equipment service, maintenance, repair, installation, manufacturing, industrial maintenance or a related technical environment
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical equipment
- Experience using a digital multimeter and electrical diagnostic tools
- Experience reading wiring diagrams and electrical schematics
- Familiarity with motors, relays, contactors, sensors, switches and control circuits
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Solid fault-finding and troubleshooting ability

Experience with commercial kitchen equipment, HVAC, appliances, industrial machinery, automation or similar equipment is a strong asset.

Gas Licence

A Gas Technician licence is not required at the time of hire; however, the successful candidate must be willing to obtain an Ontario Gas Technician licence as part of their development with GQ Mechanical.

Candidates who already hold a G3 or G2 licence will be considered an asset.

Wage progression and additional responsibilities are available as licensing, manufacturer training and field competency are achieved.

Driving Requirements

Because this is a field-service position, candidates must have:

- Valid Ontario G driver's licence
- Clean driving record acceptable to the company's vehicle insurer
- Minimum two years of verifiable insured driving history
- Ability to meet all company vehicle-insurance eligibility requirements

Compensation & Benefits

$18.00–$20.00 per hour to start, depending on relevant education, hands-on experience and demonstrated technical ability.
