Electrical Engineer (P.Eng. license)
Location: Peterborough, Ontario (onsite)
Compensation: $90,000 to $130,000 annually (bonus eligibility)

About the Opportunity
A growing defense organization is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) to support the design and development of critical electrical control systems and handling equipment used in complex applications.
This is a true engineering and product-development role. You'll work on sophisticated electrical and automation systems from concept and requirements development through detailed design, verification, testing, commissioning, and field support.
The successful candidate will have experience designing electrical systems and/or automation control systems from the ground up and will enjoy taking ownership of projects while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
What You'll Do
- Translate system requirements, specifications, and industry standards into electrical design requirements.
- Design and implement electrical systems and control solutions for complex electromechanical equipment.
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, controls, quality, operations, and supply chain teams.
- Develop and review electrical test plans and verification activities.
- Analyze verification and validation results and prepare technical reports.
- Support third-party testing activities and certification efforts.
- Participate in system-level testing, commissioning, and field support activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical product issues.
- Support continuous improvement and engineering transformation initiatives.
- Contribute throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept through implementation and operational support.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognized engineering degree.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Minimum five years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Proven experience designing electrical systems, automation systems, or industrial control systems.
- Experience taking designs from concept and requirements through design, testing, verification, and implementation.
- Strong background in automation and electrical control-system design.
- Ability to create and analyze technical documentation, specifications, testing evidence, and engineering reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical work and influence project direction without formal management authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Industrial automation
- PLC and HMI integration
- Electrical control systems
- Electrical CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical or similar)
- Heavy industrial equipment
- Material handling systems
- Lifting and hoisting equipment
- Marine or shipboard systems
- Defense programs
- Complex electromechanical equipment
- Field commissioning and system testing
- Verification and validation activities
Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the programs supported by this role, candidates must:
- Be eligible to work in Canada.
- Be eligible to obtain and maintain NATO Secret Security Clearance through the Canadian Contract Security Program.
- Meet all customer,
contractual, security-screening, and export-control requirements associated with the position.
Travel
- Approximately 10% travel.
- Occasional travel may be required to support customer sites, testing, commissioning activities, and field operations.
- Opportunities may include travel within Canada and internationally.
