Opening Overview

Our client is an established Windsor-area job shop specializing in custom tooling, precision machining, and Tool & Die work. The company is expanding its machining team to support increased workload and additional shift coverage.

This is not a repetitive production operator position. The work requires hands-on manual machining ability, strong blueprint reading, precision, and enough mechanical judgment to work through jobs independently.

Who This Role Is For

This opportunity is well suited to someone who:

- Has hands-on experience with manual machining equipment, particularly Bridgeport mills and surface grinders.
- Can square up raw material, perform precision machining and grinding work, and work accurately from a print.
- Understands precision measurement and knows how to verify their own work.
- Is comfortable working independently without constant direction.
- Enjoys job shop, Tool & Die, tool room, or other varied machining environments.

What You'll Be Doing

- Operate manual machining equipment including Bridgeport mills and surface grinders.
- Square up raw material and prepare blocks and components for subsequent machining and tooling operations.
- Perform milling, grinding, angle work, and other precision manual machining operations.
- Set up work using appropriate tooling, fixtures, and angle plates as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints independently.
- Measure and inspect work to ensure components meet print and quality requirements.




- Identify machining or setup problems and work through practical solutions.
- Support changing priorities and customer deadlines in a busy job shop workplace.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation.

What We're Looking For

- Previous hands-on manual machining experience.
- Experience operating Bridgeport mills and surface grinders.
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Experience squaring material and performing precision manual machining operations.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and verify completed work.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently after an initial training and familiarization period.
- Willingness to work the required rotating day/night schedule.

Nice to Have

- Tool & Die or tool room experience.
- Job shop or other high-mix manufacturing experience.
- Experience with manual lathes, ID/OD grinding, or additional conventional machining equipment.
- Experience producing angles or other precision features using surface grinders and angle plates.
- Broader CNC or laser machining exposure.

Schedule

- Rotating day/night schedule, approximately every two weeks.
- Day shift: approximately 6AM-6PM.
- Night shift: approximately 3:30PM-3:30AM.
- Overtime is available, including Saturdays when required by production.
