We are recruiting for a Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager on behalf of an established, privately owned business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on and taking ownership of the day-to-day accounting function. The role is best suited to someone who has progressed beyond a traditional bookkeeping position but still enjoys being directly involved in the numbers.

You will oversee the accounting function and work closely with ownership/management. While the responsibilities are comparable in some respects to a small-company Controller, a CPA designation is not required.

Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day accounting and financial functions of the business
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting
Complete month-end and year-end closing activities
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger
Prepare and review bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Manage cash flow and provide visibility into upcoming requirements
Oversee Accounts Receivable, collections and customer account reconciliations
Supervise and support one Accounts Payable employee
Review AP activity and ensure appropriate controls and approvals are followed
Prepare HST and other government remittances
Assist with payroll-related accounting and reconciliations
Maintain fixed asset schedules and other supporting financial records
Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
Work with external accountants during year-end
Provide ownership and management with accurate, timely financial information
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting

Qualifications
5+ years of progressive accounting or full-cycle bookkeeping experience
Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting,



including AP, AR, general ledger and month-end
Experience preparing monthly financial statements
Previous experience working in a privately owned, owner-managed or small-to-mid-sized business environment is strongly preferred
Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff is an asset
Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting software
Highly organized with robust attention to detail
Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the accounting function
Able to communicate financial information clearly to non-accounting stakeholders
CPA track is preferred
