Recreationist/Activationist - Casual and Part-time Permanent Positions Available

Fairhaven is a 256 bed LTC home located in Peterborough. We are currently looking for a motivated, creative and energetic individuals to join the Resident Program team. We have an exciting part-time chance to join Fairhaven as an Activationist. The idea candidates must be available to work 5 days in a two-week period, including every other weekend with the potential to pick up additional shifts as they become available.

Position Summary:

The Activationist at Fairhaven is responsible for providing recreational programs and activities to a group of residents and individual residents, under the direction of the Programs and support Services Manager. The Activationist is responsible for providing these programs in a safe and competent manner within their scope of practice.

What you will do:

Deliver activation programs and activities to meet the resident’s physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs as directed by the Programs and Support Services Manager and/or Recreational Planner.

Participation in the development of monthly program schedules.

Familiar with Resident Programs admission interview assessment and care plan to implement appropriate programs and activities.

Maintain program attendance, activity records and documentation according to department policy and Compliance Standards

Promote and communicate information about activities to residents and families.

Provide input into the development and revision of programs/schedules under Provide input for care plans and care conferences.

Attend and participate in departmental and interdepartmental meetings.





Assist with meal service in dining room

Provide direction to volunteers and students working in the Resident Programs department under the supervision of the Programs and Support Services Manager.

What you will bring to the role:

- A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university required. This is a Ministry standard and required for this position.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one to one, small group and large group activation programs.
- Experience in Long-Term Care preferred.
- Computer skills – experience with Point Click Care, RAI/MDS, and Activity Pro an asset.
- Smart Serve Certification an asset.
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Able to fulfill the physical demands of the position
