About the Role
Reports to the IT Administrator, with frequent interaction with Department Managers (Finance, Procurement, Production, Warehouse, Quality and Sales) and with the head-office IT team.
The Junior Software Engineer supports the development, testing, configuration, operation and continuous improvement of the Company’s ERP system and its sub-modules, together with the surrounding browser/server (B/S) applications and system interfaces. The role combines hands-on development (Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL and microservice-style integrations), structured software testing, day-to-day system administration and operations, and end-user training and documentation. Modern AI-assisted development tooling – in particular Claude Code – is part of the standard daily workflow. Guidance and code review are provided by the IT Administrator; the incumbent is expected to grow into independent ownership of assigned ERP sub-modules.
Job Requirements
- Education: Engineering or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in software and/or database development, including hands-on involvement in ERP implementation, development, configuration or support. Experience in the manufacturing, food or dairy industries is a robust asset. Strong new graduates with relevant co-op or project experience will also be considered.
- Language (mandatory): Fully bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese – fluent in both spoken and written form. Must be able to gather requirements and support users in English, communicate with head office in Chinese, and produce documentation and training material in both languages.
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations, internal programs, policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. ERP Sub-Module Development and Integration
§ Gather and analyse business requirements from user departments (Finance, Procurement, Inventory / Warehouse, Production, Quality, Sales) and translate them into functional specifications, technical designs and effort estimates.
§ Design, develop, code, test, debug and deploy sub-modules and customisations of the ERP system, covering areas such as master data, purchase-to-pay, inventory and warehouse movements, production orders and BOM, quality inspection, sales-to-cash and reporting.
§ Develop and maintain interfaces between the ERP and surrounding systems (MES / production lines, WMS, weighing and labelling, e-commerce, Power BI and head-office systems) using REST APIs, scheduled jobs and message-driven, microservice-style services.
§ Write and maintain application code primarily in Node.js and Python, and database objects (tables, views, functions, stored procedures and migration scripts) in PostgreSQL.
§ Follow version control (Git), code review, branching and release practices; deliver clean, documented and reusable code.
§ Use Claude Code and comparable AI-assisted development tools in daily work – for code generation, refactoring, test-case generation,
debugging and documentation – while remaining fully accountable for the correctness, security and maintainability of all delivered code, and for ensuring that confidential company data is not exposed to external tools.
2. Software Testing and Quality Assurance (B/S Systems)
§ Prepare test plans and write detailed, traceable test cases for browser/server (B/S) applications and ERP sub-modules, covering functional, boundary, negative, permission / role, workflow, interface, regression and cross-browser scenarios.
§ Execute manual test cycles, prepare and maintain test data and test environments, and keep traceability from requirement to test case to defect.
§ Log, track, re-test and close defects; analyse root causes and drive them to resolution together with developers and external vendors.
§ Organise and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with key users, consolidate feedback and confirm sign-off criteria before release.
§ Produce test reports and release notes, and build automated regression tests where practical.
3. ERP Operations, Administration and Configuration
§ Support day-to-day operation and administration of the ERP and related systems: monitoring, scheduled jobs, log review, backup and restore verification, patching, and capacity and performance tuning.
§ Configure the system to business needs: organisational structures, master data rules, document workflows and approval chains, user roles and permissions, forms, print templates and reports.
§ Maintain the development, test and production environments, and follow change control, deployment and rollback procedures for each release.
§ Provide first- and second-level support to end users: incident intake, triage, root-cause analysis, resolution and follow-up; escalate to vendors or head office where required.
§ Maintain accurate system, configuration and operations documentation, including SOPs and runbooks.
4. Training, Documentation and Communication
§ Prepare bilingual (English and Chinese) user manuals, quick reference guides, SOPs, configuration documents and technical documentation.
§ Deliver training and workshops to end users and key users in both English and Chinese, and support new-hire onboarding and refresher training on ERP processes.
§ Act as a communication bridge between local departments and the head-office IT team, including translation of requirements, specifications and issue reports.
5. General
§ Adhere to all privacy expectations and policies – maintaining strict confidentiality for sensitive personal and/or business information.
§ Identify, initiate and participate in continuous improvement of business processes and system usage.
§ Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in software development, ERP and AI-assisted engineering, and propose practical applications for the Company.
§ Other duties as assigned.

Hands-on exposure to at least one ERP platform (e.g. SAP Business One / S4, Yonyou, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NetSuite) is preferred.
§ AI-assisted development: Able to use Claude Code (or an equivalent AI coding agent) competently in daily development and testing – effective prompting and context management, generating and reviewing code and test cases, debugging,
and validating AI output before it is committed; aware of the security and confidentiality boundaries of such tools.
