About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Compounding Operations Manager to manage our non-sterile compounding, clinical trial and batch production operations.
This is a key role in a small company. We need someone who can lead people, organize production, manage inventory and vendors, write and implement SOPs, manage equipment and improve how the operation works. The successful candidate must be proactive, self-directed and able to take ownership of operational issues without requiring detailed direction.
What you will do
- Manage day-to-day non-sterile compounding, clinical trial and batch production, including hands-on participation in compounding and production activities when operationally required.
- Plan production and staff schedules based on workload, priorities, capacity and timelines.
- Lead, train and manage Compounding Assistants, including performance feedback and appraisals.
- Manage inventory to prevent avoidable stock-outs while minimizing excess, slow-moving and expiring inventory.
- Manage purchasing and vendor sourcing based on price, quality, reliability, lead time and continuity of supply.
- Compare quotations, identify alternate suppliers and manage sourcing risks.
- Develop, write, implement and maintain SOPs and production documentation.
- Ensure production follows approved formulations, quality procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of existing compounding and production equipment and ensure appropriate maintenance, cleaning and calibration.
- Stay current with equipment, technologies and industry vendors and recommend automation, equipment or process improvements that improve efficiency, productivity, capacity or cost.
- Work with the General Manager on clinical trial production requirements and costing.
- Work with the Designated Pharmacy Manager on technical and regulatory compliance.
What we are looking for
- Post-secondary education in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biology, industrial pharmaceutical technology or a related scientific field.
- 7–10 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical compounding or pharmaceutical production, including significant hands-on compounding experience.
- Solid understanding of NAPRA requirements applicable to non-sterile compounding.
- Strong practical knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding techniques and quality control procedures.
- Proven experience managing laboratory or production operations and personnel.
- Demonstrated experience writing and implementing SOPs.
- Experience managing production schedules, workload and staff productivity.
- Experience with inventory management, purchasing and vendor sourcing.
- Experience conducting employee performance appraisals.
- Practical knowledge of compounding and production equipment.
- Clinical trial and batch production experience is an asset.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
