The Opportunity

At McElhanney, we bring people together to deliver projects that shape communities and environments across Western Canada. As a Junior Biologist (Biologist-In-Training), you'll work alongside experienced environmental professionals, engineers, planners, and project managers to support a wide range of environmental and regulatory projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional based in Calgary looking to build field experience, develop technical skills, and grow within a supportive, multidisciplinary team, with an anticipated start date of May 2027 or following graduation.

What You’ll Do

- Support environmental assessments, regulatory applications, and environmental planning projects.
- Participate in field programs, including wildlife, vegetation, fisheries, wetlands, and habitat assessments.
- Assist with environmental monitoring and data collection activities.
- Conduct field surveys and record environmental observations accurately and efficiently.
- Compile, organize, and analyze environmental data.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, environmental assessments, and permit applications.
- Assist with developing field methodologies, sampling plans, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with project managers and technical specialists to deliver high-quality projects on schedule.
- Contribute to environmental stewardship and sustainable project outcomes across a variety of sectors.

What You’ll Bring

- Bachelors degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
- Experience relevant to environmental consulting, field biology,



or environmental science from internships.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to travel and participate in field programs throughout Alberta and Western Canada.
- Located in Calgary, or a commutable distance.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and ability to travel and work on site.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per annum.

The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
