Topmade Plastics & Neon Signs is a Calgary-based sign manufacturer that has been operating since 1979. We design, manufacture, install, and service custom signage for businesses throughout Alberta and beyond.

We are looking for an experienced Welder / Fabricator to join our production team. Our fabrication work is primarily aluminum, with some steel, and consists largely of custom-built products rather than repetitive production welding.

Sign industry experience is an asset, but it is not required. We are interested in someone with strong welding and fabrication fundamentals who is comfortable learning how custom sign structures and components are built.

What You'll Be doing

- MIG and TIG welding, primarily aluminum with some steel
- Fabricating custom sign cabinets, frames, structures, brackets, bases, and other components
- Cutting, fitting, assembling, and welding aluminum and steel components
- Reading and working from shop drawings, sketches, measurements, and work orders
- Measuring accurately and laying out components prior to fabrication
- Using fabrication equipment and hand tools including saws, grinders, drills, and related shop equipment
- Grinding, cleaning, and finishing welded assemblies as required
- Checking completed work for dimensions, fit, appearance, and overall quality
- Working with our drafting and production teams to resolve fabrication questions
- Assisting with general fabrication and production work when required
- Maintaining an organized and safe work area
- Following company safety procedures and established shop practices

What We're Looking For

- Previous welding and metal fabrication experience
- Experience welding aluminum
- Experience with MIG welding; TIG welding experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to fabricate from drawings and measurements rather than relying solely on pre-cut production parts
- Comfortable working with both aluminum and steel
- Good understanding of fit-up, distortion control, weld preparation, and finishing




- Ability to use common fabrication tools and equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and workmanship
- Ability to work independently once a project has been reviewed
- Comfortable working on different projects throughout the day
- Reliable, organized, and able to communicate well with the production team

Assets The following would be considered an asset but are not mandatory:

- Aluminum MIG welding experience
- Custom fabrication experience
- Structural or architectural metal fabrication experience
- Experience with sheet metal or light-gauge aluminum fabrication
- Brake, shear, or forming equipment experience
- Experience reading detailed shop drawings
- Previous sign manufacturing experience
- Experience fabricating sign cabinets, pylons, channel letters, or support structures

The Type of Person Who Will Do Well Here Our work is highly customized. One day you may be fabricating an aluminum sign cabinet, while the next project could involve a welded steel base, structural framing, brackets, or a completely custom assembly. This position is best suited to someone who enjoys building things, solving fabrication problems, and working on wide-ranging projects rather than doing the same weld repeatedly all day.

We value people who take pride in their workmanship, ask questions when something does not look right, and are willing to work with the rest of the team to find practical solutions.

- Compensation: $26 - $35/hour, based on experience
- Start Date: As soon as possible
