: As a member of the mutli-disciplinary team, and under the general direction of the Director of Mental Health and Addictions Services and Addiction Counselor - Supervisor, the primary goal will be restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery programs.
Responsibilities include providing informational programming as well as individual and group counseling sessions with clients. This position will be expected to assess individual and group needs of clients and implement plans to help clients reach their goals. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"
- Knowledge in applicable Acts
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and prevention programs
- Ability to communicate with clients from diverse social backgrounds
- Ability to communicate with clients from diverse economic backgrounds
- Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
- Knowledge in local human service organizations, resources, referral procedures
- Knowledge in community resources and services in the clinical area
- Knowledge in harm reduction in Addictions Medicine
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge in substance abuse and addictions, including cause and effect
- Ability to communicate with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge in addictions screening, assessment tools and procedures
