About The Position In this role the chosen candidate will be working directly with the Commercial Managers overseeing Business-related aspects of the Candiac starch plant and Montreal milling plant. They will also be working with colleagues across ADM’s Milling and Baking Solutions and Decatur facilities in Illinois to continue advancing corporate strategies surrounding facility growth and network optimization.
As the ADM Milling Group in North America looks to expand its product offerings across the region, the Candiac and Montreal teams will play a key role in driving and facilitating these initiatives.
The Assistant Commercial
Manager will support and help lead these efforts, working closely with key stakeholders to advance growth opportunities and strengthen the business’s presence in the market.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Report to the Commercial Manager: Support the Commercial Manager in overseeing the day-to-day commercial activities of the plant, ensuring that operational, financial, inventory, and customer requirements are effectively coordinated and aligned with overall business objectives.
- Flour and Wheat Inventory Management: Monitor and manage flour and wheat inventories to ensure adequate raw material and finished product availability while maintaining appropriate inventory levels, minimizing waste, and supporting production and customer demand requirements.
- Wheat Blend Management: Coordinate and monitor wheat blend requirements to ensure the appropriate raw materials are available and utilized efficiently to meet product specifications, quality standards, production requirements, and customer needs.
- Finished Goods Contract Pricing: Manage and review finished goods contract pricing to ensure customer agreements are accurately reflected, pricing remains commercially appropriate, and changes in commodity costs, market conditions, and contractual requirements are properly incorporated.
- Commercial KPI and OTIF Tracking: Manage key commercial performance indicators and On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) metrics, identifying service issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Partner with production, logistics, and sales teams to address customer service challenges and improve overall plant performance.
- Facility P&L; and Budget Reviews: Participate in facility Profit & Loss (P&L;) reviews and annual budget processes by analyzing financial performance, identifying variances to plan, and working with the Commercial Manager and plant leadership to understand financial drivers and develop corrective actions.
- Month-End Reporting: Oversee and complete assigned month-end commercial reporting responsibilities, ensuring that inventory, sales, pricing, production, and other relevant financial and operational information is accurate, timely, and properly reported.
- Production and Position Report Reviews and Approvals: Review production schedules, inventory positions, commodity positions, and related commercial reports to ensure that plant production and inventory decisions are aligned with customer demand, contractual commitments, available raw materials, and overall business requirements. Provide approvals and recommendations as appropriate.
- Internal and Third-Party Audits:
Assist the Commercial Manager and plant leadership with internal and third-party audits by preparing required documentation, validating commercial and inventory records, supporting auditor requests, and ensuring that applicable processes and controls are properly followed.
- Inventory Reports and Schedules: Regularly review inventory reports, production schedules, and inventory position schedules to identify potential shortages, excess inventory, discrepancies, or other risks that could impact production, customer service, or financial performance.
- Scheduling Position Training: Complete and maintain training related to the scheduling position to develop a thorough understanding of plant scheduling processes, production capacity, inventory requirements, customer commitments, and the commercial considerations involved in balancing supply and demand.
- Support National Sales Team and Network Growth: Work closely with the National Sales Team to support customer requirements, optimize plant and network opportunities, and identify ways to improve commercial performance and drive growth across the broader company network. Provide plant-level information regarding capacity, inventory, pricing, production capabilities, and service performance to support sales initiatives.
- Primary Vacation Backup for the Commercial Manager: Serve as the primary backup for the Commercial Manager during periods of vacation or absence, maintaining continuity of commercial operations and ensuring that critical responsibilities related to inventory, pricing, production, reporting, customer requirements, and plant performance are effectively managed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include additional responsibilities beyond the core scope of the role.

- Bilingual in French and English, with strong communication skills in both languages. English is essential for this role, as it is the common business language used to collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers across our global organization.
Education And Work Experience
- The ideal candidate will hold a college diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field, combined with 2 to 5 years of relevant commercial, sales, customer service, or business experience, preferably within a global organization. An equivalent combination of education and experience, particularly within the manufacturing industry, will also be strongly considered.

- Work in accordance with local/provincial legislation.
- Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must be able to maintain valid work authorization throughout their employment. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization.
- This role requires to be on site 2 days a week at pour Mill Street plant in Montreal and 3 days a week at our Candiac plant with the capacity to respond to occasional after-hours emergency requests.
- Must be travel-ready, with a valid driver’s license and the ability to occasionally travel by air for out-of-province or out-of-country meetings.
- It will be necessary for certain projects to accommodate the availability of our colleagues located in other time zones.
