Overview
Dolce & Spice is a Toronto-based food startup bringing together the comfort and familiarity of Italian cuisine with the bold flavours and spices of Indian cuisine.
We are currently operating through catering, private events and special events as we develop and validate the concept, with a long-term vision of building Dolce & Spice into a scalable fast-casual restaurant brand.
As we enter our next stage of growth, we are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial Chef Partner / Culinary Lead who wants to help build the culinary side of the business from the ground up.
This is not a traditional restaurant chef position.
We are looking for someone who understands the realities of an early-stage food business and is excited by the opportunity to help develop a concept, build systems and grow alongside the brand.
The Opportunity
You will work directly with the Founder to refine and develop the Dolce & Spice menu and establish the culinary systems required for future growth.
Our immediate focus is simplifying our existing menu, improving execution and profitability, and developing a standardized recipe and operations system that can eventually be replicated across locations.
The right person will bring both culinary creativity and operational thinking.
What You'll Be Involved In
- Refining and simplifying our existing Italian-Indian fusion menu
- Developing and testing new dishes
- Standardizing recipes, portions, preparation methods and plating
- Helping create a comprehensive recipe and culinary operations manual
- Costing recipes and identifying opportunities to improve food margins
- Developing efficient prep and production systems
- Preparing food for catering and private events
- Maintaining consistency and quality across events
- Supporting ingredient sourcing and supplier decisions
- Helping design a menu that can eventually transition into a rapid-casual restaurant environment
- Contributing ideas around kitchen operations, scalability and future expansion
Who We're Looking For We would love to meet someone who:
- Has professional culinary experience, ideally with Italian cuisine, Indian cuisine, or both
- Has experience with menu development and recipe costing
- Has access to an appropriate kitchen or established kitchen operation where production and development can take place
- Understands food costs, inventory, portion control and kitchen efficiency
- Is comfortable working in an early-stage startup where systems are still being built
- Is creative, collaborative and genuinely interested in developing a new food concept
- Thinks beyond individual dishes and understands how a menu needs to operate commercially
- Is reliable and able to support scheduled catering/events as the business grows
- Is based in the GTA
Experience owning, operating or managing a restaurant or food business is a strong asset.
Partnership Potential
We are specifically interested in finding someone who could become a long-term culinary partner in Dolce & Spice, rather than simply filling shifts.
For the right person, there is potential for the role and compensation structure to evolve alongside the company as we grow.
Any longer-term partnership, profit-sharing or ownership arrangement would be discussed separately based on fit, involvement, responsibilities and demonstrated commitment.
Why Join at This Stage?
Dolce & Spice is still early enough that the person joining us will have meaningful influence over what the food, kitchen systems and future restaurant concept ultimately become.
This opportunity may be particularly suited to a chef who has strong culinary and operational experience and wants to participate in building a brand, rather than simply working within an established restaurant.
If you are excited about Italian-Indian fusion, entrepreneurship and the process of turning a food concept into a scalable business, we'd love to hear from you.
