About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Civil Design Technologist to contribute to a diverse range of infrastructure projects throughout Western Canada, with a primary focus on water, wastewater, and marine infrastructure in waterfront, aquatic, and coastal environments. Based in Victoria, BC, the successful candidate will support projects from planning and field investigations, through design and construction, while working alongside experienced engineers, scientists, and technical specialists.

The role combines office-based civil design and drafting with periodic field assignments involving surveying, site inspections, construction support, and data collection. Projects may involve marine outfalls and pipelines, potable water systems, wastewater infrastructure, hydrotechnical works, shoreline and riparian environments, pollution mitigation, trenchless installations, bathymetric and topographic surveys, hydrology, oceanography, and other infrastructure associated with rivers, lakes, and oceans.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers,



environmental professionals, and field staff to develop practical and creative solutions for complex infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

- Develop detailed engineering designs and drawings for marine pipelines, water and wastewater infrastructure, shoreline works, and related civil infrastructure using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Create and analyze surfaces, alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading models.
- Importing and combining various spatial data (e.g. LiDAR and other survey formats) and correcting to common datums.
- Processing topographic/bathymetric survey data for design and drafting.
- Creating logical layouts for civil design drawings (plan and profile views, details).
- Interpreting and communicating site plan content.
- Apply drafting standards, layers, line types, symbols, and drawing conventions.
- Use GIS software to compile, manage, analyze, and present spatial data in support of engineering design, field investigations, and technical reporting.
- Assist with field investigations, construction support, and condition assessments.
- Prepare cost estimates, study reports, engineering specifications, and construction contract documents.
- Prepare technical reports and other written deliverables.
- Maintain current technical knowledge and awareness of professional practice standards.

Qualifications

- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum two years of experience in civil engineering consulting, engineering design,



or a related field, including demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

- Experience developing and managing Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading models, pipe networks, and quantity calculations.
- Experience preparing detail drawings, including plans, sections, and fabrication or assembly drawings, with proper application of dimensioning, tolerancing, annotation, and drafting conventions.
- Land surveying and/or hydrographic (bathymetric) surveying experience.
- Experience using GIS software
- Knowledge of applicable engineering design standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Experience in one or more of marine pipelines, utilities, rivers and hydrology, coastal and ocean environments, municipal or industrial infrastructure, land development, and concrete or rebar is considered an asset.
- Strong organization and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication in English, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to solve problems and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel for project work as required.
- Valid driver’s licence.

Compensation

Anticipated salary range, $68,000 to $80,000. GreatPacific offers fair compensation based on education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications.
