Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Counsellor to provide specialized therapeutic counselling to survivors of sexual violence (ages 16 and up), facilitate support groups, and contribute to community education and prevention initiatives. This is a term position, with continued employment dependent upon funding, performance, and organizational needs. We believe counsellors provide their best care when they themselves have manageable workloads, supportive colleagues, and opportunities to continue growing professionally.

Workload & Schedule:

This is a full-time position based on approximately 36 hours per week, designed to support a sustainable clinical workload and healthy work-life balance. The role typically includes approximately 20–25 hours of active client-facing or program-related work each week.

Active work may include: -





Individual counselling sessions - Support groups - Community presentations - Workshops - Outreach activities - Meetings with community partners

Occasional evening work may be required to accommodate client or community needs.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will

- Provide trauma-informed individual counselling to survivors of sexual violence.

- Facilitate therapeutic support groups.
- Develop safety plans and provide crisis intervention when appropriate.
- Collaborate with community partners to ensure coordinated services.
- Deliver educational presentations and workshops.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of counselling programs.
- Maintain confidential clinical documentation and statistical reporting.
- Participate in team meetings, consultation, and professional development.

Qualifications:

We welcome applications from counsellors with strong therapeutic skills and a commitment to supporting survivors of sexual violence. Applicants should possess: - A Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field. OR - A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with appropriate clinical experience, professional registration, supervision (where required), and eligibility for professional liability insurance.

Applicants must also:

Be registered, licensed,



or eligible for registration with an appropriate New Brunswick regulatory body or recognized Canadian professional association.

- Be eligible to obtain professional liability insurance.
- Have counselling experience through practicum placement or employment.
- Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both English and French. Applicants currently licensed in another Canadian province are encouraged to apply, provided they are eligible to obtain registration in New Brunswick before beginning practice.

Specialized Knowledge:

Experience or training in the following areas is considered an asset:

- Trauma-informed practice - Sexual violence counselling - Complex trauma and PTSD - Crisis intervention - Risk assessment - Safety planning - Group facilitation - Cultural safety and humility - Working with youth and vulnerable populations - Clinical documentation - Court preparation - Prevention of vicarious trauma Completion of the SVNB Counselling Survivors training is considered an asset. Candidates with a strong counselling foundation but limited experience in sexual violence counselling are encouraged to apply.
