The Credit Underwriting Analyst is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and adjudicating consumer loan applications to ensure accurate, consistent, and compliant lending decisions. This role evaluates applicant creditworthiness by analyzing credit reports, income verification, employment information, debt obligations, repayment capacity, and supporting documentation while applying established underwriting guidelines, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, the Credit Underwriting Analyst exercises sound credit judgment to balance prudent risk management with operational efficiency and exceptional customer service. The role is accountable for making timely, well-informed lending decisions that support regulatory compliance, enhance customer experience, and contribute to profitable portfolio growth while maintaining the organization's credit risk standards.
Summary

Responsibilities
Credit Underwriting & Decision Making
- Review and evaluate customer loan applications to determine applicant eligibility and creditworthiness.
- Analyze credit reports, income verification, employment information, debt obligations, repayment capacity, and supporting documentation.
- Approve or decline loan applications within authorized limits and lending guidelines.
- Exercise sound judgment when assessing complex or exception-based applications.
- Escalate applications outside delegated authority or present elevated risk to appropriate leadership.
- Clearly document underwriting decisions, rationale, and supporting analysis.
Risk Assessment & Compliance
- Assess and manage credit, operational, and compliance risks throughout the underwriting process.
- Ensure lending decisions comply with company policies, underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Identify inconsistencies, potential fraud indicators, and documentation deficiencies.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of customer financial information.
- Support quality assurance reviews, audits, and compliance initiatives.
Operational Excellence
- Meet established service level agreements (SLAs), productivity standards, and turnaround time expectations.
- Prioritize workloads effectively while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and quality.
- Maintain complete and accurate underwriting documentation within applicable systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, consistency, and customer experience.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance underwriting operations.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Branch Operations to clarify application details and obtain additional information required for lending decisions.
- Communicate underwriting decisions, conditions, and documentation requirements clearly and professionally.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while balancing operational priorities and risk management.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- 2–3 years of consumer lending, underwriting, or financial services experience.
- Experience reviewing loan applications and making credit decisions.
- Knowledge of credit analysis, income verification, and risk assessment.
- Strong understanding of lending policies, regulations, and underwriting guidelines.
- High school diploma required
- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.

Hours Of Operation
- Monday Through Friday 8AM - 10PM EST
Salary: $52,000 - $70,000 CAD The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based on the Canada average. The actual base salary offered for this full-time position will be determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, skills, knowledge, competencies, and experience. All full-time employees are eligible for the following benefits, starting on day one: Paid Time Off Program, Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Disability, and other voluntary coverages. You will also be eligible to participate in our RRSP/DPSP program once you have completed 3 months of employment with a company match.
