Part Time - Late Afternoon/ Evenings
Rebarkable Retreat is Calgary’s destination for enrichment-based dog daycare, open-concept boarding, and community-driven pet experiences. We are currently seeking a Dog Daycare Attendant to join our team, with a focus on managing groups of large breed dogs both indoors and on structured outdoor pack walks.
This role requires a strong physical work ethic, a calm and confident presence around dogs, and an appreciation for routine. While rewarding, it’s important to understand that dog daycare work isn’t just play—it demands constant observation, quick decision-making, and a willingness to do hands-on, often messy work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage groups of up to 20 large breed dogs in an enclosed indoor daycare space.
- Lead on-leash pack walks with up to 5 dogs at a time, maintaining control and safety at all times.
- Monitor dogs for subtle shifts in behavior or tension—standing for extended periods and staying alert is a core part of this job.
- Work independently for long stretches, often being the sole human supervising a group of dogs.
- Anticipate and intervene early to prevent altercations or overstimulation using safe, approved handling techniques.
- Clean up after dogs throughout the day, including urine, feces, and other messes, and perform ongoing sanitation of the space.
- Support enrichment programming and uphold facility rules and protocols consistently.
What This Job Is Really Like:
- This role can be physically demanding and mentally repetitive. You will be on your feet, observing and redirecting behavior, and maintaining control of a group for long periods.
- You’ll often be working alone with the dogs, which requires confidence, responsibility, and a calm demeanor.
- While the dogs are playful, your role is to keep them safe, which means attentiveness matters more than entertainment.
- Cleaning is a major part of the role and is expected to be done thoroughly and without hesitation.
Qualifications:
- Experience handling or working with large dogs is strongly preferred.
- Must be comfortable managing dog-to-dog interactions and maintaining control of up to 100 lbs + per dog.
- Able to work on your feet for 8 hours, bend and lift up to 50 lbs, and perform physical tasks in all weather conditions.
- Strong situational awareness, good judgment, and a calm presence are essential.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and routines with care.
- A positive attitude and respect for both animals and coworkers is required.
