POSITION SUMMARY

NAMCO has an immediate opening for an experienced Engineer (EIT) / Mechanical Design Technologist / Technician to join our Engineering team.

This is a hands-on engineering and design position combining SolidWorks-based mechanical design, manufacturing support, reverse engineering, troubleshooting, and shop-floor involvement.

We are looking for someone who can work with a high degree of independence and take a project from initial measurements, concepts, or customer information through detailed design, manufacturing drawings, production support, inspection, assembly, and final documentation.

This is not an entry-level or purely drafting position. The successful candidate should have strong practical knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing and be comfortable working directly with machinists, welders, inspectors, mechanics, and assembly personnel.

Experience with industrial gearboxes, gears, shafts, bearings, mechanical power transmission equipment, heavy machinery, or rotating equipment would be considered a significant asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Create, review, and revise detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Develop complex 3D solid models, assemblies, and detailed production drawings
- Design and modify mechanical components, assemblies, gearboxes, housings, shafts, bearing arrangements, and related equipment
- Independently develop designs from customer requirements, existing equipment, sketches, concepts, and field measurements
- Apply appropriate fits, tolerances, GD&T;, materials, heat treatments, surface finishes, and manufacturing requirements
- Review existing drawings and identify potential design or manufacturing issues
- Perform engineering calculations and design verification as required
- Support selection and application of bearings, seals, fasteners, couplings, and other mechanical components
- Perform reverse engineering of existing or damaged components through measurement, inspection, disassembly, and analysis
- Work directly with machinists, welders, QC personnel, and assembly teams to resolve manufacturing and design issues




- Provide technical support during machining, fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
- Participate in equipment disassembly and inspection to determine component condition and repair requirements
- Perform dimensional inspection and measurement using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment
- Support CMM inspection and interpretation of inspection results
- Prepare and maintain production travellers, bills of materials, technical reports, manuals, procedures, and other engineering documentation
- Review completed components and assemblies for compliance with drawings and design requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement of engineering and manufacturing processes
- Support ISO 9001 and API Quality Management System requirements, engineering document control, and traceability
- Follow all NAMCO safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical design and manufacturing experience preferred
- Strong practical experience with SolidWorks, including:
- 3D part modeling
- Complex assemblies
- Manufacturing drawings
- Assembly drawings
- Drawing revisions and configuration management
- Strong understanding of GD&T;, fits and tolerances, machining allowances, surface finishes, and manufacturing drawings
- Ability to independently read, interpret, create, and review detailed mechanical drawings
- Robust understanding of machining and manufacturing processes, including turning, milling, boring, grinding, welding, and fabrication
- Experience working directly in a machine shop, manufacturing facility, repair facility, or heavy industrial environment
- Experience with mechanical assemblies, shafts, bearings, seals, fits, and rotating equipment
- Experience with gearboxes, gearing, power transmission equipment, or heavy machinery is a strong asset
- Experience with reverse engineering and developing drawings from existing components is an asset
- Experience using precision measuring equipment is required
- Familiarity with CMM inspection is an asset
- Experience with ISO 9001, API Q1,



or similar quality systems is an asset

IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate is someone who understands that good mechanical design goes beyond creating a 3D model.

You should understand how a component will actually be machined, inspected, assembled, and serviced and be able to communicate effectively with the people manufacturing it.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience involving:

- Industrial gearboxes and gear drives
- Gears, pinions, shafts, and splines
- Bearing and seal arrangements
- Heavy rotating equipment
- Precision machining
- Equipment repair and rebuilds
- Reverse engineering
- Industrial machinery and mechanical power transmission

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Shortlisted candidates should be prepared to complete a practical SolidWorks and mechanical drafting assessment.

The assessment may include

- Creating or modifying a 3D model
- Preparing a manufacturing drawing
- Applying dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T;
- Reading and interpreting an existing mechanical drawing
- Demonstrating understanding of machining and manufacturing processes
- Discussing how they would approach a practical mechanical design or reverse-engineering problem

SCHEDULE

- Monday to Friday
- Full time
- 8-hour shifts
- Overtime opportunities may be available depending on workload

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Hourly Pay: $35.00 – $45.00 per hour

Compensation is negotiable and will depend on the candidate's relevant experience, SolidWorks ability, mechanical design knowledge, manufacturing experience, and demonstrated technical capability.
