The First-Year Representatives serve as a bridge between the CUS Fashion and Retail Association and the first-year student community. Throughout the year, the two representatives rotate through the club’s portfolios, support ongoing initiatives, share first-year perspectives, and work together to plan and execute a year-end event.
Time Commitment
4-6 Hours/Week
Main Responsibilities
- Rotate through the Marketing, Events, Partnerships, and Finance and Internal portfolios according to a structured schedule
- Support each portfolio with ongoing projects, campaigns, outreach, and event preparation
- Attend team meetings and provide insight into the interests and needs of first-year students
- Promote club events and opportunities within the first-year community
- Collaborate with the other First-Year Representative and executive team
- Apply skills gained from the rotations to propose, plan, promote, and execute a year-end event
- Participate in club events and contribute to a welcoming team culture
Qualifications
- Must be a first-year UBC student during the 2026–27 academic year
- Interest in fashion, retail, marketing, events, partnerships, or student leadership
- Willingness to learn and contribute across different portfolios
- Robust communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Reliable, proactive, and comfortable sharing ideas
- Able to manage deadlines and balance responsibilities across the academic year
Anticipated Learning Outcomes
- Gain broad exposure to the functions of a student organization
- Develop foundational skills in marketing, event planning, partnerships, and internal operations
- Strengthen teamwork, communication, leadership, and time-management skills
- Learn how to develop an event from initial concept through execution and evaluation
- Build confidence contributing ideas and taking ownership of projects
- Form relationships with executive members and other students interested in fashion and retail
