Unreal Engine 5 Developer (Remote, Hourly)

We're building ASCEND, an open-world survival RPG in Unreal Engine 5. We're looking for an Unreal developer to help build the game world and the systems that run in it. This is hands-on Unreal work, not web or app work.

Responsibilities

- Build playable levels in Unreal Engine 5, from blockout to finished area
- Sculpt and paint landscapes, and set up terrain materials and foliage
- Build gameplay systems in Blueprints, and in C++ where it's needed
- Set up characters: movement, animation blueprints, state machines, and input
- Place environment assets, and set up lighting with Lumen and Nanite
- Keep the game running smoothly: profile the scene, fix frame rate drops, use LODs and level streaming on large maps
- Import and set up assets from Fab and other sources (meshes, materials, animations)
- Package builds for Windows and fix crashes and bugs that come up
- Keep the project tidy in version control (Git or Perforce) so work can be shared without breaking things

Requirements

- Real, shipped experience in Unreal Engine 5 (share a project,



video, or playable build)
- Strong with Blueprints, and able to read and follow a project someone else set up
- Comfortable with Unreal's landscape tools, foliage tools, and material editor
- Knows how to use Git or Perforce with an Unreal project
- Can work on your own, in a small team, and give short progress updates
- Positive enough English for written chat

Nice to have

- Unreal C++, or Blueprints
- Open-world or survival game experience
- World Partition, level streaming, or big-map optimization
- Gameplay Ability System, AI behaviour trees, inventory or crafting systems
- Basic 3D work in Blender for small fixes
