Matkowsky Immigration Law is a growing Canadian and U.S. immigration law firm based in Toronto. We work with individuals, families, entrepreneurs, employers, and corporations on a wide range of Canadian and U.S. immigration matters.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Immigration Lawyer to join our growing legal team. This is an chance for a lawyer who enjoys working directly with clients, managing files from start to finish, and handling both straightforward and complex immigration matters.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, confident in their legal judgment, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Prior immigration law experience is required.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of Canadian immigration law experience required.
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian immigration law and procedures.
- Experience managing immigration files independently from start to finish.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage a busy caseload effectively.
- Strong client-service skills and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to your work.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a broader legal team.
- Strong interest in staying current with developments in immigration law and practice.
Job Duties:
- Conduct client consultations and assessments to identify immigration options and determine appropriate legal strategies.
- Manage a diverse caseload of Canadian immigration matters from initial consultation through to completion.
- Advise clients on eligibility, application requirements, timelines, procedural issues,
and potential risks.
- Prepare and review applications, supporting documentation, legal submissions, procedural responses, and other materials for submission to government authorities.
- Handle both routine and complex immigration matters, exercising sound legal judgment and attention to detail.
- Conduct legal research and stay current on changes to Canadian immigration legislation, regulations, policies, and case law.
- Represent clients in appropriate proceedings before the Federal Court, Immigration and Refugee Board, and other relevant tribunals and government bodies.
- Communicate directly with clients by telephone and email, providing clear and timely advice throughout the immigration process.
- Identify potential issues early and develop practical solutions to keep matters moving forward.
- Review work prepared by legal support staff and provide guidance, direction, and feedback as required.
- Collaborate with other lawyers, paralegals, articling students, and administrative staff to ensure files are managed efficiently.
- Participate in firm-wide initiatives related to training, knowledge sharing, technology, and process improvement.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment.
- Maintain accurate and timely file records and ensure compliance with applicable Law Society requirements.
- Participate in business development and client relationship activities, where appropriate.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary: $100,000–$125,000, commensurate with experience
