The Opportunity

Rightway Recruitment is conducting the search on behalf of our client, an established mechanical engineering consultancy with a long-standing presence in British Columbia. With offices across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, our client specializes in mechanical building systems design, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression.

Our client is continuing to grow and is looking to add an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to their Nanaimo-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineering professional who enjoys technically challenging building projects and is looking to further develop their project management and leadership capabilities.

Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Engineering

- Design HVAC and plumbing systems for renovation and new construction projects.
- Produce construction drawings, plans, calculations, and supporting documentation for mechanical building systems.
- Apply applicable codes and engineering standards throughout the design process.
- Prepare technical reports by compiling, interpreting, and summarizing engineering data.
- Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to develop mechanical designs and construction documents.

Project Management & Coordination

- Support mechanical engineering projects from design through completion.
- Coordinate project requirements, schedules, priorities, and technical deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with internal team members, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Adapt to changing project requirements and market demands.




- Manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and project timelines.

Team Leadership

- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering and design team members.
- Contribute to a collaborative and positive team environment.
- Support and mentor junior engineering professionals where required.
- Take on increasing project management and leadership responsibilities as experience allows.

Project / Role Scope The role will focus on the design and delivery of mechanical building systems for renovation and current construction projects, including:

- HVAC systems
- Plumbing systems
- Fire suppression systems
- Mechanical construction drawings and documentation
- Engineering calculations and technical reports
- Project coordination and management

What You Bring

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering consulting experience.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression design.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of applicable local codes, including the BC Building Code.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities; previous experience leading or managing engineering teams is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal, and time-management skills with a positive attitude and willingness to continue learning.
