CLC Lactation Counselor — Job Description

1. Position Details

- Position Title: Lactation Counselor (CLC)
- Certification Level: CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) as primary; IBCLC acceptable
- Employment Type: Full-time （9:00-17:00 ，Mon~Fri）
- Location: Canada (remote eligibility )
- Team: Global Customer Service Department / Expert Service
- Reports To: teamleader

2. Role Overview

This position is scoped at the CLC certification level. The role provides routine breastfeeding support and lactation education to current mothers, and is responsible for identifying complex cases beyond the CLC scope of practice and referring them promptly to an IBCLC or physician. It serves as the foundational consultation role within the lactation support service.

3. Key Responsibilities

(A) Provide routine breastfeeding support

- Coach latch positioning and breastfeeding technique
- Help new mothers build confidence in feeding

(B) Deliver lactation education and consultation

- Conduct one-on-one or group lactation guidance
- Address routine feeding questions

(C) Identify and refer complex cases

- Recognize situations beyond the CLC scope of practice, including preterm infants, tongue-tie concerns and poor weight gain
- Refer promptly to an IBCLC or physician

(D) Maintain service records

- Accurately document consultation content,



assessment findings and referrals

(E) Support community education

- Assist in developing lactation education resources
- Support community breastfeeding promotion activities

4. Qualifications

(A) Certification

- Valid CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) certification, in good standing
- IBCLC certification is also acceptable; however, the role is positioned at the CLC level

(B) Experience

- Prior experience in lactation support is preferred (community settings, postpartum support groups, outpatient clinics, etc.)
- Experience serving multicultural populations is an asset

(C) Competencies

- Proficient in routine lactation assessment and counseling techniques
- Able to clearly identify referral indicators
- Fluent English communication; additional languages are an asset
- Cultural sensitivity, with the ability to provide basic trauma-informed support

(D) Other Requirements

- Criminal record check required
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

5. Preferred / Asset Qualifications (Summary)

- IBCLC certification
- Lactation support experience in community, postpartum support group or outpatient clinic settings
- Experience serving multicultural populations
- Languages in addition to English
