The Language Nest Assistant Trainee will work under the direction of the NEST Coordinator and be mentored under various senior staff. Chief Atahm School is seeking a caring, energetic individual to assist in the Language Nest program. The successful candidate will support daily activities that nurture children’s physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and cultural development — all within a Secwepemctsin language immersion workplace

Eligible participants are First Nations youth ordinarily resident on reserve, in recognized communities or on community lands. Eligible participants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and must be between the ages of 15 to 30 at the start of the program’s activities. Mentored work placements are for youth who are not in school, unemployed, or underemployed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITES:

- Assist in activities by interacting with children in the Secwepemc language
- Plan activities that enhance creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Guide and assist children in routines: eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Supervise children and prepare to intervene when necessary
- Support co-workers in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for snacks, lunch, and rest periods
- Discuss progress and problems of children with Nest Coordinator
- Maintain learning materials in good condition
- Light cleaning after meals, activities, and end of the day

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITES

- Knowledge and speaking Secwepemctsin




- Reading and writing Secwepemctsin an asset
- First Nations youth ordinarily resident on reserve, in recognized communities or on community lands.
- Youth means persons aged 15 to 30 inclusive.
- Acceptable RCMP Criminal Record check
- Adequate Secwepemctsin in order to carry out duties in an immersion setting
- Emergency Child Safe/First Aid certificate (would be an asset)
- Experience with working with young children,, babies to 3 years old

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Must be between the ages of 15 to 30 at the start of the program’s activities

Must not be in school, and be either unemployed, or underemployed

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Fixed Term Position starting October 5, 2026 and ending April 2, 2027

Wage offered will be $20.00 per hour

Hours per week: up to 60 hours biweekly (max 30 hrs./week)

Competition closes September 27, 2026 at midnight, Pacific Time.
