Job DescriptionThe Relief Residential Counselors are responsible for planning and implementing individualized, goal‑centered programs for adults with developmental disabilities within Lawson Ministries Programs. They promote greater independence, provide supportive and nurturing environments, and ensure that the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of Service Users are met. Work will vary by shift, requiring flexibility in days, afternoons, evenings, overnights, and weekends. Relievers are scheduled by their supervisors and may be required to cover additional hours as needed.ResponsibilitiesPromote greater independence and strive toward the highest quality of living possible.Promote an environment and programming that is supportive and nurturing.Ensure that the Service User’s physical needs (food, clothing, shelter) are well met, including cleaning of the home, participation in meal preparation, and provision of personal care as required.Assist the Service Users in meeting their emotional and psychological needs.Involve in the planning, implementation and evaluation of person‑directed treatment/rehabilitation plans alongside Service Users, team members, other staff and professionals.AccountabilitiesMaintain knowledge of person‑directed plans, policies, and procedures for each resident.Support efforts to meet Service Users’ spiritual needs through participation in programming.Collaborate with residential and day‑program teammates to provide coordinated care.Develop therapeutic relationships with Service Users and their families.Accurately record daily logs, shift reports, and incident reports in AIMS software.Administer medications and document dispensing accurately,
including ordering.Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of residence and main office.Respond to Service User emergencies and provide transportation as required.Demonstrate understanding of the psychological and social dynamics of caring for individuals with developmental diagnoses and behavioral needs.Perform other duties as assigned by Program Supervisors, Directors, or Executive Director.Working ConditionsWork will be conducted in Service Users’ homes, community settings, or office locations as directed.Schedule may vary; this is a relief position based on relief/casual hours per week with no guaranteed amount of hours.Education, Experience, Qualifications, Certifications, SkillsCompletion of a two‑year post‑secondary program: Developmental Social Worker Diploma or equivalent in Human Services.Current First Aid & CPR with Defibrillation training or willingness to obtain upon hiring.Current Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification or willingness to obtain upon hiring.Valid Criminal Records Check (CRC) with vulnerable sector screening.Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s licence, current Driver’s Abstract, and access to a personal vehicle.Minimum of one year of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and vulnerable populations.Medication administration training and experience is an asset.Lifting and transfer training and experience is an asset.Strong oral and written communication skills.Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.Attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality with qualified ethics.Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission of The Salvation Army in Canada.CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $23.10 to $28.88, with a maximum of $34.65.
