We are looking for a dedicated Roadway Maintenance Leader I / Licensed Crew Leader to join our Parks and Roads Services branch. Your role shifts with the seasons, transitioning from playground construction in the summer to essential snow and ice control in the winter months. You’ll be right there in the field, providing hands-on supervision, technical training, and safety oversight for your crew. Beyond the physical work, you serve as a key administrative link, managing timesheets, project documentation, and material tracking to keep operations running smoothly. You will also act as a primary point of contact for external vendors and internal departments, ensuring project goals are met efficiently. Ultimately, your expertise ensures our recreational spaces meet the highest safety standards to protect the people who use them.What will you do?Provide direct leadership and field-level supervision to crews, including performing employee evaluations and monitoring attendance and performanceLead the repair, conservation, and construction of playground projects according to CSA and City of Edmonton standardsCoordinate winter operations as a working foreman, engaging in manual labour and equipment operation for snow and ice programsConduct safety training, "toolbox talks," and ensure all corporate safety practices and OH&S; regulations are strictly followedManage administrative tasks such as preparing work plans, tracking inventory, and submitting weekly timesheets for crew membersCommunicate effectively with community members to provide information on work programs and address localized concernsLiaise with external supply vendors, utility companies, and internal collaborators to ensure project successQualifications:Two (2) year diploma program in a related field.



Other completed educational equivalencies may be consideredA minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in parks construction, Landscaping and Snow and Ice (SNIC), including operation of all vehicles and associated equipment is required or equivalentAssets:Possession of a Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI) certification, or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of employmentSkills required for success:Ability to lead, develop, and motivate effective work crews in a fast-paced environmentExtensive knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in parks maintenance and constructionExtensive knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in parks and playground constructionPrevious experience in a supervisory or lead hand capacity within a municipal or construction environmentMaintain effective and collaborative working relationships with community members and internal collaboratorsAbility to implement annual work plansSetting priorities and scheduling resources to meet seasonal objectivesInspect completed work and ensure site evaluations meet standardsKnowledge of City and Department policies and relevant legislationMonitoring OH&S; compliance and following corporate safety practiceDemonstrated knowledge of the City of Edmonton Design and Construction GuidelinesProven problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make independent decisions under tight deadlinesExcellent communication skills for interacting with the public, civic departments, and outside organizationsExperience using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets) and SAP for administrative tasksAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.Ly/4brRrXm)Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionApplicants may be testedConditions of Employment:Hire is dependent on obtaining and maintaining a Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement or higher (or provincial equivalent), and there may be a cost associated with this requirementCandidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) or higher.
