RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position Summary The Centre of Excellence in Hypertension and Vascular Health, at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre brings together clinical and translational research, innovation, and training to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and management of hypertension and vascular disease.

The Centre supports an integrated research platform spanning clinical, translational, and epidemiological. Its activities include investigator-initiated studies, national and multinational pre-clinical and clinical research, clinical trials, vascular phenotyping, biobanking, biomarker discovery, multi-omics, precision medicine, women's cardiovascular health, and hypertension across the life course.

The Centre is seeking an experienced research professional with a strong scientific background, demonstrated leadership in complex clinical and translational research programs, and excellent organizational and communication skills to serve as Manager of the Centre of Excellence in Hypertension and Vascular Health.

ROLE

Under the direction of the Centre Director, the Manager will provide scientific, operational, and strategic leadership for the Centre's research activities and support its continued development as a multidisciplinary platform for hypertension and vascular research.

The Manager will oversee a portfolio of concurrent research programs spanning the full research continuum, from project conception and funding through regulatory approval, implementation, data collection, analysis, dissemination, and knowledge translation.

The Manager will work closely with the Centre Director, investigators, physicians, research personnel, trainees, institutional platforms, patient partners, funding agencies, and national and international collaborators. The position will also play a central role in developing new research initiatives, securing funding, expanding collaborations, supporting clinical trial readiness, and aligning the Centre's activities with institutional and scientific priorities.

Strategic Research Program Management

- Coordinate the Centre's portfolio of clinical, translational, epidemiological, and laboratory research programs, including national and multinational studies.
- Work closely with the Centre Director to establish research priorities, operational objectives, timelines, milestones, and longer-term strategic goals.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary research teams involving clinicians, scientists, research coordinators, trainees, laboratory personnel, data specialists, institutional platforms, and external collaborators.
- Monitor project milestones, deliverables, recruitment, budgets, regulatory requirements, analyses, publications, and reporting obligations.
- Identify operational and scientific risks and develop mitigation and contingency strategies.
- Develop and implement processes that improve research efficiency, standardization, quality, and collaboration across the Centre.
- Support the continued development of the Centre as a platform for investigator-initiated research, multicentre studies, and industry-sponsored clinical trials.

Grant Writing & Research Development
- Lead and support the development of competitive grant applications to provincial, national, international, foundation, and institutional funding programs.
- Work closely with the Centre Director and investigators to develop new research concepts and funding strategies aligned with the Centre's priorities.
- Manage project budgets and ensure alignment among scientific objectives, personnel, infrastructure, experimental activities, and available resources.

Clinical & Translational Research Development
- Contribute scientific and methodological expertise to the design of clinical, translational and epidemiological research projects.
- Facilitate the integration of advanced cardiovascular phenotyping, blood pressure assessment, vascular imaging, biospecimens, biomarkers, biobanking, and multi-omics methodologies.
- Work with clinical, laboratory, imaging, biostatistical, bioinformatics, and institutional research platforms to determine feasibility, workflows, sample requirements, and appropriate methodologies.




- Support the development and management of large clinical research databases and longitudinal cohorts.
- Troubleshoot scientific and methodological challenges and coordinate appropriate solutions with investigators and research teams.

Research Operations, Governance & Regulatory Oversight
- Coordinate day-to-day research operations across the Centre and ensure effective communication among research teams and collaborators.
- Support the preparation and submission of research protocols, Research Ethics Board applications, amendments, renewals, and regulatory documentation.
- Promote compliance with institutional policies, Positive Clinical Practice, research ethics requirements, data governance standards, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Support the development of standardized operating procedures and quality-management processes across clinical, laboratory, imaging, biobanking, and data activities.
- Coordinate multicentre and multinational study implementation, including site activation, research agreements, data collection processes, and communication among participating centres.
- Work with institutional and external stakeholders to facilitate contracts, budgets, research agreements, and study implementation.

Team Leadership, Training & Mentorship
- Coordinate and support research personnel working across the Centre's programs and facilitate effective allocation of personnel and resources.
- Provide day-to-day scientific and operational guidance to clinical research coordinators, research assistants, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees.
- Review research plans and monitor progress toward scientific and operational milestones.
- Promote a collaborative, inclusive, rigorous, and supportive research environment.
- Contribute to the development of training opportunities in hypertension, vascular medicine, clinical research, and translational science.

Partnerships, Clinical Trials & Centre Development
- Build and maintain relationships with investigators, clinicians, institutional research platforms, patient partners, research networks, funding organizations, industry partners, and national and international collaborators.
- Identify opportunities to leverage the Centre's clinical populations, research cohorts, infrastructure, biobanks, and expertise for new investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies.
- Support the Centre's development as a trial-ready platform and facilitate collaboration between research programs and specialized clinical services.
- Identify opportunities for new projects, publications, partnerships, funding, and commercialization or innovation activities.
- Represent the Centre in research, operational, institutional, and collaborative meetings as delegated by the Centre Director.
- Contribute to strategic planning and initiatives that enhance the Centre's national and international visibility and scientific impact.

Data, Infrastructure & Research Platforms
- Support the management and scientific use of large clinical research databases, longitudinal cohorts, biobanks, and linked research datasets.
- Coordinate access to clinical research infrastructure and specialized platforms required for vascular phenotyping, imaging, laboratory analyses, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and other multi-omics approaches.
- Promote harmonization of data collection and research procedures across studies and participating sites.
- Facilitate integration of clinical, imaging, biological, and molecular datasets for interdisciplinary research.
- Support implementation of appropriate data-management, quality-control, documentation, and research-governance processes.

PROFILE OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE The successful candidate will combine a strong scientific background with extensive experience in research program management and multidisciplinary team leadership. They will have demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical and translational research programs, coordinate national and international collaborations, contribute to successful grant applications, oversee large research datasets and study operations, and translate scientific strategy into executable research programs. The candidate will be highly organized, proactive, collaborative, and capable of operating at both strategic and operational levels. They will play a central role in supporting the Centre Director, coordinating the Centre's growing research portfolio, developing new funding and partnership opportunities, mentoring research personnel and trainees,



and advancing the Centre's position as a leading program in hypertension and vascular health.

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree

Field of Study: biomedical sciences, cardiovascular sciences, pharmacology, physiology, epidemiology, or a related discipline

Other education considered an asset for this position: PhD or equivalent advanced graduate degree.

Work Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years’

experience in a research environment, preferably in a field related to cardiovascular research and medicine

Required Skills

- Extensive experience in clinical, translational, or biomedical research, with demonstrated experience managing complex multidisciplinary research programs.
- Robust track record in scientific writing, grant development, research methodology, and project development.
- Experience coordinating multicentre and/or multinational clinical research studies.
- Demonstrated experience with research ethics submissions, study protocols, regulatory documentation, and Good Clinical Practice.
- Experience managing research teams, trainees, collaborators, timelines, budgets, and multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience with clinical research databases and data-management platforms such as REDCap.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular research, hypertension, vascular phenotyping, biomarkers, biobanking, and/or multi-omics is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clinicians, scientists, trainees, patient partners, institutional leadership, research platforms, funding agencies, and external collaborators.
- Excellent, communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities in a dynamic academic research environment.
- Experience in research project management and formal project-management training or certification are considered assets.
- Fluency in English is required, proficiency in French and additional languages is considered an asset.

Additional information Status : Temporary Full-Time (35-hours workweek)

Pay Scale: $71,598 to $132,969. Commensurate with education & work experience.

Work Shift: from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Fridays. Flexibility may be required.
