THE ROLE The Finance Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day finance and accounting operations.
The Finance Manager will oversee the accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency of the internal finance function, including accounting, financial reporting, billing and collections, tax compliance, budgeting, staff expense management, finance systems, process improvement, and team leadership.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced accounting professional who can take ownership of finance operations, identify issues, improve processes, and provide reliable financial information to management.
Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee the general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, revenue, WIP, AR, AP, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and review financial statements, schedules, and supporting working papers.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and ensure accounting policies and procedures are followed.
- Coordinate information required for year-end accounting, tax, audit, and other external requirements.
Billing, Revenue, WIP & Collections
- Monitor revenue, WIP, unbilled revenue, billing, and accounts receivable.
- Coordinate collections and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Resolve billing and accounting issues.
- Ensure revenue is recorded accurately and in accordance with applicable accounting policies.
Andersen Group Reporting Support
- Prepare financial information, schedules, and analysis required for Andersen Group reporting.
- Coordinate routine reporting data, including revenue, billing, WIP, and other financial metrics.
- Respond to routine finance information requests and support Group integration and reporting initiatives.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee routine Canadian tax and regulatory filings, including GST/HST, PST, and other applicable filings.
- Ensure filing and payment deadlines are met.
- Prepare information required for corporate income tax compliance and tax provisions.
- Research routine accounting and tax matters and work with the Director of Finance and external advisors on more complex issues.
Staff Expense Management
- Oversee the review and processing of employee expense reports and corporate credit card expenses to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Ensure expenses are properly recorded and allocated to the appropriate department, project, or expense category.
- Follow up on unusual or non-compliant expenses and support employees with expense-related questions.
- Assist with the administration and improvement of the firm's expense management system.
Budgeting, Financial Analysis & Process Improvement
- Coordinate the preparation of budgets and forecasts in collaboration with management.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support management decisions.
- Lead improvements to finance processes, workflows, reporting, and systems.
- Support the implementation and optimization of finance technology and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency.
Finance Team Leadership & Operations
- Manage, supervise, and develop finance staff.
- Review work, establish priorities, and ensure assignments are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and adherence to finance procedures.
- Act as the primary internal finance operations resource and proactively identify and resolve accounting and operational issues.
- Support special projects and organizational initiatives as required.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation required.
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Strong experience with full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, billing, WIP, AR, and financial analysis.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting and tax requirements, including GST/HST and PST.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Experience managing or supervising accounting/finance staff.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Experience with cloud-based accounting, expense management, or ERP systems is an asset.
- Experience with Power BI or other financial reporting tools is an asset.
- Professional services or public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with a US organization is an asset.
- Experience with finance system implementation and process improvement is an asset.
