STAR Catholic Schools invites applications for a temporary full-time Occupational Therapist.

STAR Catholic Schools has approximately 5000 students in 12 schools in Beaumont, Leduc, Wetaskiwin, Ponoka, Lacombe and Drayton Valley. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for providing OT services to students within Division Schools.

Through collaborative partnerships with classroom teachers and other professionals, the individual will be responsible for the selection, development, and implementation of strategies and activities to develop fine and visual motor, self-help and sensory/regulation skills.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES To evaluate children's needs in the areas of fine motor and visual motor; self-help and sensory/regulation.

To formulate and implement occupational therapy goals for Individual Program Plans (IPPs) within a consultative model.

To collaborate with parents, caregivers, teachers, educational assistants, and other professionals to meet the needs of children.

To provide on-going monitoring and documentation of student progress and the effectiveness of recommended strategies and interventions.

To educate and consult with parents, teachers, and educational assistants about a child's skill development and associated disorders in the areas of fine and visual motor skills, self-help and sensory/regulation skills.

To participate in IPP meetings.

To provide strategies, resources, materials, and programming ideas for classroom activities that will foster inclusion, skill development and target IPP goals.

In consultation with Division staff, make appropriate referrals to outside agencies relating to the development of fine and visual motor skills, self-help and sensory/regulation skills.





Assist Division staff in identifying students or children requiring referrals for physical therapy.

To provide recommendations for equipment and resources that would benefit students and children.

Collaborate with Division staff regarding transition planning for students and children.

To provide formal assessments with a written report, as required.

To write summary and progress reports and other documents as required.

To conduct workshops in the areas of fine and visual motor skills, self-help and sensory/regulation skills development.

To supervise OT and OTA students on practicums from post secondary institutions.

Additional Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Provides recommendations for additional services and/or therapies

Attends required meetings.

Develops and maintains a high level of knowledge and awareness of the current theory and practice related to meeting the learning needs of children and students via workshops, conferences, etc.

Participate in all required training.

Provides and seeks mentorship with colleagues

Performs daily duties in a manner conducive to a safe workplace.

Complies with Division policies and procedures.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with the inclusive services team and be willing to provide career development workshops. Experience working in PUF programs and autism spectrum disorder would be an asset. The individual will possess a BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy or a related master's degree. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The position start date is January 4, 2027. Successful applicants will be required to submit a current Criminal Record Check (inclusive of a vulnerable sector check) and a current Alberta Children's Services Intervention Record Check (within 6 months).
