JOB OVERVIEW

As a Park Interpreter, you will be responsible for providing visitors with immersive experiences of Gatineau Park’s natural and cultural heritage, emphasizing conservation, delivering engaging guided tours and contributing to interactive exhibits. You will conduct research, develop accurate interpretative content, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. You will engage in community outreach to promote the park’s activities and educational efforts, enhancing visitor connections with nature and sustainable practices.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Successful completion of a secondary school diploma or an employer-approved alternative.

EXPERIENCE

One (1) to three (3) years of experience in each of the following criteria:

- Providing information and guided tour services to the public.
- Contributing to displays, presentation decks, or scripts, covering topics such as ecology, history, wildlife, natural features, the environment, sustainability, and conservation.
- Creating dynamic presentations and hands-on activities.

KNOWLEDGE

- Of natural and cultural heritage, including specific features of the park.
- Of interpretation techniques and audience engagement methods to deliver engaging and interactive educational experiences tailored to diverse audiences.
- Of safety regulations to respond promptly to emergencies and ensure the safety and well-being of visitors.

ABILITIES





- To conduct research to develop accurate and engaging interpretive content.
- To adapt quickly to changing circumstances and address issues such as fluctuations in group size, weather conditions, or technical challenges during tours and presentations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Lifting or handling interpretation materials, papers and files, with an occasional requirement to box up and move boxes of materials weighing up to 9 kg (20 lb.).
- Work activities primarily involve standing and walking outdoors for long periods of time, incidental to the work being performed.
- Work activities require high attention to observing natural/cultural resources and monitoring the surrounding environment for any signs of wildlife or hazardous conditions.
- Work activities involve some exposure to variable weather conditions, insects, noxious plants, wild animals, dirt, and other conditions when working in the field.
- To occasionally work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Possess or eligible to obtain Reliability security clearance.
- Linguistic profile: Bilingual CBC.
- Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 33 Chemin Scott, Chelsea, Québec.
- The person selected for this position is expected to work on site on a full time basis.
