Responsible for overall project performance including costs, schedule, quality and project status. Oversees Project Coordinators and collaborate with the Project Superintendents in achieving project success. Maintains an excellent relationship with sub-trades and clients.This position is based out of Durham Ontario.RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Be an ambassador of the Company both internally and externallyMentor, coach, supervise junior project managers and other members of the project team(s)Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule.Develop, recommend and implement the project plan and schedule.Establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, building authorities, regulatory agencies and publicSetting up project reporting procedures (cost reports – labour and material, site office procedures, document drawing control)Providing performance status reports regarding cost forecast, schedule and safetyUnderstanding and enforcing contractual responsibilities,
contract documents and resolving disputesReview and negotiate subcontracts and major purchase orders; monitor their progress,schedule and conducting subcontract buyoutIdentify required and optional changes in project scope; negotiate change orderswith the owner including processing and assessing cost and schedule impactPreparing / verifying of progress payments to owner and subcontractors, and monitoring progressMeeting manager/chair of project meetingsInvolved in all facets of project close-out, including archiving of documents, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies and warranty workDeveloping and ensuring compliance with quality control plan and establishing site action teams as necessaryMonitor and control progress, costs and budgets throughout the project ensuring project profitabilityAct to resolve disputes between the Company and owner/subcontractors when possible prior to escalating; manage claims andclaims avoidanceBe responsible to ensure the Company’s safety program is being followed at a project levelLiaising with building authorities and regulatory agencies as required.Perform other duties as assigned to meet business unit and corporate objectivesEffective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDetailed understanding of all aspects of construction: technology, equipment, materials, bid management, claims management and safetyKnowledge of different construction methods, sequencing, problem solving and timelinesAbility to understand and employ engineering/construction plans/specifications, methods and proceduresAbility to establish and maintain strong working relationship with owners, clients, other managers, designers, supervisors,
subtrades and trades peopleAbility to be flexible and work in a rapid-paced environmentAbility to effectively and creatively solve problems related to construction, sequencing and staffingAbility to travel to project sites and off-site locations throughout Ontario as required.EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTSPost-secondary diploma or degree in a related engineering or construction management disciplineMinimum of 5 years of proven experience in project management from project pursuit to project close-out, overseeing commercial construction projects (hard bid, AFP and/or negotiated)Previous management experience within a mid – large general contractor; experience in a unionized environment an assetEng and/or LEED certifications an assetAbility to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation, including OH&S; regulations and Building CodesDemonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.Familiarity with Labor relations and collective agreement management.Familiarity with project accounting systems, Viewpoint an asset.A valid class G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is requiredEqual Opportunity EmployerBarclay Constructors is an equal opportunity employer.AccessibilityBarclay Constructors welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.
