Position Porter Competition 2026 288 Existing Status Temporary Part Time up to 3 months with possible extension Department Portering Salary 2501 to 2674hour Hours of Work 0700 19001900 0700 0530 13300800 16001000 18001100 19001300 2100 including weekends & holidays hours subject to change based on operational needs Union Association CUPE Position Summary The Porter is responsible for assisting and transporting patients and materials throughout all areas of the Hospital as directed The Porter duties include transporting patients for diagnostic tests and in between in patient units transporting specimens equipment and mail within the Hospital and stocking and delivering linen supplies The focus of the Porter is on performing safe work practices and high quality work and providing excellent customer service The Porter participates in in services and hospital wide activities and programs that model and promote a protected and healthy patient centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives Requirements Education Experience Specific Training Minimum Grade 12 or equivalentWHMIS trainingSkills and Knowledge Demonstrated ability to read write and communicate effectivelyDemonstrated ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with patients visitors staff and volunteersGood decision making and problem solving skillsDemonstrated flexibility creativity and ability to establish prioritiesMust have physical ability to perform all tasksWork is moderately heavy; involving lifting considerable walking and standing bending pushing and pullingKnowledge of safe lifting practices and ability to utilize lift equipment andor assistance for heavy lifting when requiredAbility to work with minimal supervision both independently and as a team memberAbility to use portable phoneAbility to respond to overhead pagingFamiliar with computer usage eg word processing email spreadsheets etcPrevious related experience an assetKnowledge of the physical layout of the hospital an assetGood attendance and availability required
