The Protective

Services team is seeking a dedicated, ambitious, and collaborative Protective Services Officer to join the team at Cardston Health Centre. As a Protective Services Officer, you will be among the first to respond to and document security events while helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, and community members. Solid interpersonal and communication skills are essential to foster collaboration, demonstrate respect, and effectively de-escalate challenging or high-stress situations.

Cardston Health

Centre offers a unique rural healthcare environment that includes an Opioid Dependency Program (ODP) clinic providing treatment and support for individuals experiencing addictions and mental health challenges. Opioid agonist treatment, combined with recovery-oriented psychosocial interventions, plays an important role in supporting individuals with opioid dependency. As a member of the broader psychosocial support team, you will work alongside healthcare professionals to promote safety, support patient-centered care, and contribute to positive outcomes for vulnerable populations.

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program).

Valid

Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence.

Valid Physical Abilities Requirement

Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications

Alberta Class 5 operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. You must be eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public. Past criminal records which have not received a pardon, current and past investigations by previous employers, past misconduct as a Peace Officer, and other issues could result in you not being eligible for appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered.

Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Comfortable and experienced with public speaking
