This position is based in Calgary, AB.
We are conducting a confidential search for a Safety Manager to join an established commercial construction organization with an expanding project portfolio across Western Canada.
This is a full-time, on-site leadership opportunity for a safety professional who can take ownership of the company’s safety program while remaining closely connected to field operations. The successful candidate will provide leadership to safety personnel, work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents, and ensure consistent safety practices across multiple active commercial construction sites.
The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial construction safety experience, excellent knowledge of provincial OHS requirements, and the ability to build credibility with field teams, subcontractors, clients, and senior leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the company’s safety program across multiple commercial construction sites.
- Ensure compliance with provincial OHS legislation, WorkSafe requirements, and company safety standards.
- Manage, mentor, and support Safety Officers while conducting regular site visits and safety audits.
- Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, CSOs, and subcontractors to promote safe work practices.
- Oversee site inspections, hazard assessments, safety plans, JHAs, and corrective actions.
- Lead incident reporting, investigations, root-cause analysis, and follow-up.
- Coordinate safety orientations, training, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety education.
- Maintain safety documentation, reporting, metrics, and electronic safety systems such as Salus.
- Support regulatory inspections, client safety requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, ideally within commercial construction.
- 2+ years of experience managing or supervising safety personnel preferred.
- Proven experience supporting multiple active construction sites.
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian OHS legislation, provincial regulations, WorkSafe requirements, and construction safety standards.
- Experience with safety inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
- Strong ability to build effective relationships with field leadership, subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver safety training and provide practical guidance to site teams.
- Experience with electronic safety documentation systems.
- Robust leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- CSO certification required; NCSO or NHSA designation considered an asset.
- Valid First Aid / CPR / AED certification is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly between project sites.
