Reporting to the Property Manager, the Maintenance Worker will perform maintenance and repairs in various areas, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance. The successful candidate will maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and interact positively with our tenant population.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform maintenance and repairs in the areas of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenanceMaintain cooperative working relationships with staff and interact positively with tenant populations who have experienced homelessness, mental health, and addiction problemsMaintain inventory and take care of tools and equipmentMust have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle throughout employmentMust be able to lift 25 kilogramsKnowledge of group processes and dynamicsDemonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with Housing co-workers and interact positively with the tenant populationDemonstrated ability to work independentlyDemonstrated organizational,
time management, and administration skillsProficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applicationsAbility to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingAbility to communicate verbally and in writing, in languages other than English, an assetQualificationsMinimum Grade 12 educationAt least 3 to 5 years of relevant experienceGood communication and organization skillsWorking knowledge of building management/maintenance routines, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, and ability to ensure that Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, and other relevant standards and legal requirements are metSeveral years’ experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed, and who are hard to houseKnowledge of tenant population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices, and systemic reasons for homelessnessExperience with rental legislation in OntarioExcellent interpersonal skillsKnowledge of relevant laws, standards, and guidelinesKnowledge of resources and services available in the communityCertificates in first aid, CPR, crisis prevention, and intervention are assetsMust be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employerAble to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the agency's operational requirements.#J-18808-Ljbffr
