Senior Engineer / Architect – Electronic Trading, Market Data & Smart Order Routing

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 2 days/week onsite)

Employment Type: 12-Month Contract

We are partnering with a leading financial services organization to hire a Senior Engineer / Architect with deep expertise in electronic trading, market data, smart order routing, and capital markets technology. This role is ideal for a senior technical professional who combines hands-on engineering capabilities with a strong understanding of trading systems, market structure, and execution workflows.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, and enhance low-latency electronic trading and market data platforms.
- Develop solutions across the full trading technology stack, including:
- Order management and execution
- Smart Order Routing (SOR)
- Market data ingestion, normalization, and distribution
- Market-making and liquidity management workflows
- Partner with trading desks, product teams, quants, operations, and compliance stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Architect and optimize real-time streaming and event-driven applications.
- Design and support FIX connectivity, execution management, and trade lifecycle processing.
- Leverage Spark and distributed data technologies for analytics, surveillance, and operational workflows.
- Drive platform modernization initiatives focused on performance, scalability, resiliency,



and regulatory readiness.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design discussions, code reviews, and mentoring.

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of software engineering experience within electronic trading or capital markets technology.
- Deep understanding of exchange ecosystems, order books, market data, trade lifecycles, execution workflows, and liquidity provision.
- Experience designing or supporting Smart Order Routing (SOR) platforms.
- Strong knowledge of low-latency market data processing and distribution.
- Experience with market-making, pricing, quoting, or liquidity management systems.
- Strong programming experience with:
- Java
- Python
- Real-time analytics engines such as 3forge or Deephaven
- Experience with Apache Spark, PySpark, or Scala Spark.
- Experience with Kafka or similar real-time messaging and streaming technologies.
- Robust understanding of FIX Protocol and electronic trading connectivity.
- Solid SQL, distributed systems, and performance optimization experience.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business stakeholders.
