A.W. Hooker Associates Ltd. is a professional Quantity Surveying and Construction Cost Consulting firm with over 50 years of experience serving the commercial, institutional, industrial and infrastructure sectors across Canada.

Our multidisciplinary team includes Architectural, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Independent Certification, Expert Witness and Loan Monitoring specialists. We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our growing practice and provide professional cost consulting services on complex construction projects.

Main Duties The successful candidate will perform some or all of the following duties:

● Prepare detailed construction cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, contract documents and preliminary design information.

● Complete trade and elemental quantity take-offs for commercial, institutional, industrial and infrastructure projects.

● Analyze quotations, tenders and pricing information from suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.

● Prepare elemental estimates, cost reports, budget updates and expenditure forecasts at various stages of project development.

●Prepare elemental format estimates for Classes D, C & B level of design completion

●Prepare Pre-Tender Elemental and Master format estimates for Class A estimates

● Liaise with architects, engineers, owners and contractors regarding design revisions, value engineering opportunities and cost implications.

● Maintain construction cost databases, unit rates and supplier pricing information.

● Coordinate estimating deliverables within project schedules and ensure timely completion of assigned work.





● Review completed estimates for accuracy, completeness and compliance with company quality standards.

● Provide technical guidance and quality review of estimating work completed by junior quantity surveyors.

● Conduct periodic site visits and construction progress reviews, including loan monitoring assignments, to assess progress against project milestones and reported expenditures.

●Train junior staff on all technical aspects of work as well as review and mentor staff to improve their performance; report to lead seniors and principals in the firm

●Have a good communication style for conversing with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

Qualifications

Education

● Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Building Science or a related discipline.

Experience

● Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in quantity surveying, construction estimating, cost consulting or related construction project delivery.

● Demonstrated experience independently preparing quantity take-offs and elemental construction cost estimates.





● Experience working on commercial, institutional or infrastructure projects is preferred.

Professional Designation

● Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) designation in good standing with the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) is required.

● Equivalent internationally recognized quantity surveying qualifications may be considered, subject to company evaluation.

Technical Skills

● Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

● Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

● Experience using digital take-off and estimating software such as Bluebeam, OST, Bidscreen, Navisworks or equivalent is an asset.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

● Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites are required.

Work Environment

This position offers the chance to work on a diverse range of construction projects within a collaborative and flexible professional environment. Remote and hybrid work arrangements may be available depending on project requirements. $80,000–$105,000 annually (commensurate with experience) (40 hrs/week). RRSP matching, extended health & dental benefits, summer hours, flexible work arrangements, and eligibility for performance bonus and incentive programs.
